Volunteer Role Description: Graphic Designer

Purpose of role

The role Graphic Designer is to produce high quality design work for promotional and communication materials for Watford & Three Rivers Trust. Watford & Three Rivers Trusthas a range of services, hosts events and activities. We are seeking a team of volunteers to ensure that the Trust’s brand and ‘style’ of design are applied. The Graphic Design role will design materials for print.

The role

The Graphic Designerwill be asked to:

  • Design publications, literature, posters and signage for events and campaigns to help promote the Trust’s services and for them to gain new members, volunteers and fundraising
  • To assist with the development of the Trust’s brand guidelines and house style
  • To assist with the development and upkeep of the Trust’s image and illustration library

Requirements

  • Excellent graphic design skills and able to prepare high quality creative design for publications, literature, posters and display materials.
  • Have access and confident user of graphic software such as InDesign
  • Able to manipulate digital and non-digital images
  • Creative with a pride of quality work, eye for detail and able to work to strict deadlines
  • A willingness to undertake training and development opportunities
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality

Desired Criteria

  • You are able to provide a portfolio of your previous work
  • Have experience of working with print and design companies
  • Experience of website development and management
  • Self-sufficient and can work independently, but when required you are confident to request assistance.

The time commitment

We ask that the Graphic Designer is on an as required basis for approximately 3-4 hours per assignment. The role is ongoing and will be regularly reviewed in partnership with the volunteer.

Location

This role is not required to work from the Holywell Community Centre, unless desired. There will be a requirement for a meeting occasionally with the supervisor at the Holywell Community Centre.

Training & induction:

All volunteers are required to undertake a training as part of their induction programme. This will include an overview of the Watford & Three Rivers Trustand basic health and safety. There may also be other training that you are required to undertake. All training will take place on dates and times to be agreed in advancewith the volunteer and their supervisor. Completion of the training programme is compulsory.

Supervision and support

The Graphic Designer will report to the Director of Communications. The supervisor will answer questions, provide guidance and monitor performance. Training will be given at the beginning of the placement and will be provided on occasions throughout. At the end of the first month there will be an informal discussion between volunteer and supervisor on progress and support needs. Informal ’one-to-one’ support meetings will then take place at least twice per year and will be in addition to the regular contact and communication that is ongoing between the supervisor and volunteer.
