A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, the forty-ninth chapter, beginning at the first verse.

Listen to me, O coastlands, and hearken, you peoples from afar. The Lord called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name. He made my mouth like a sharp sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me a polished arrow, in his quiver he hid me away. And he said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.” But I said, “I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely my right is with the Lord, and my recompense with my God.”

And now the Lord says, who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him, and that Israel might be gathered to him, for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord, and my God has become my strength—he says: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved of Israel; I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

Here ends the Lesson.

A reading from the Epistle of Saint Paul to the Galatians, the second chapter, beginning at the first verse.

After fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along with me. I went up by revelation; and I laid before them (but privately before those who were of repute) the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, lest somehow I should be running or had run in vain. But even Titus, who was with me, was not compelled to be circumcised, though he was a Greek. But because of false brethren secretly brought in, who slipped in to spy out our freedom which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage—to them we did not yield submission even for a moment, that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you. And from those who were reputed to be something (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—those, I say, who were of repute added nothing to me; but on the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been entrusted with the gospel to the circumcised (for he who worked through Peter for the mission to the circumcised worked through me also for the Gentiles), and when they perceived the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised; only they would have us remember the poor, which very thing I was eager to do.

Here ends the Lesson.

The Apostles’ Creed

Officiant and People together, all standing

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, dead, and buried.

He descended into hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven,

and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

Saint Peter and Saint Paul June 29

Almighty God, whose blessed apostles Peter and Paul

glorified thee by their martyrdom: Grant that thy Church,

instructed by their teaching and example, and knit together

in unity by thy Spirit, may ever stand firm upon the one

foundation, which is Jesus Christ our Lord; who liveth and

reigneth with thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, one God,

for ever and ever. Amen.

A Collect for Sundays

Lord God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ triumphed

over the powers of death and prepared for us our place in the

new Jerusalem: Grant that we, who have this day given

thanks for his resurrection, may praise thee in that City of

which he is the light; and where he liveth and reigneth for ever

and ever. Amen.

A Collect for Aid against Perils

Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy

great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this

night; for the love of thy only Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Prayers

For All Sorts and Conditions of Men

O God, the creator and preserver of all mankind, we humbly

beseech thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that thou

wouldest be pleased to make thy ways known unto them, thy

saving health unto all nations. More especially we pray for

thy holy Church universal; that it may be so guided and

governed by thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call

themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and

hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in

righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to thy fatherly

goodness all those who are in any ways afflicted or distressed,

in mind, body, or estate; [especially those for whom our prayers

are desired]; that it may please thee to comfort and relieve

them according to their several necessities, giving them patience

under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their

afflictions. And this we beg for Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen.

For the President of the United States and all in Civil

Authority

O Lord our Governor, whose glory is in all the world: We

commend this nation to thy merciful care, that, being guided

by thyProvidence, we may dwell secure in thy peace. Grant

to the President of the United States, the Governor of this

State (or Commonwealth), and to all in authority, wisdom

and strength to know and to do thy will. Fill them with the

love of truth and righteousness, and make them ever mindful

of their calling to serve this people in thy fear; through Jesus

Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the

Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

For Saint Paul’s Church at the Sesquicentennial Celebration

Lord God Almighty, who hast exalted thy Son Jesus Christ to an eternal throne in the heavenly Salem as high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek: We thank thee for the many blessings thou hast bestowed upon this earthly Salem: for the beauty and bounty of forest and field; for courageous pioneers who settled the land and created a community where churches and schools, government and commerce would flourish; for those who risked and sometimes gave their lives in the cause of freedom at home and abroad. Most especially, on this day we remember the founders and benefactors, the clergy and people of this parish church consecrated one hundred fifty years ago. Grant to those who have gone before us eternal rest and a rich reward for their faith in thee. And, in fellowship with our Blessed Lady Mary, Queen of Peace, Melchizedek of Salem, the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the saints, bind us and all Christians in this community into a fellowship of love that knows no bounds and shines as a light that may not be quenched. Accept these our prayers in the Name of Jesus Christ our great high priest, to whom with thee and thy all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit be all honor and glory, now and for ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
