September 23 Walk Run Helps Thousands

All of money raised by Walk Run is directly allocated to LCS Emergency Food Programs for feeding hungry low income people in New CastleCounty. Last year’s LCS Hunger Walk Run raised over $40,000. This contribution is the single largest piece of the food program budget. Indeed, without it we would be hard pressed to feed as many people as we do. To illustrate, consider that last year we fed approximately 50,000 people. To feed them we purchased food that cost a little over $100,000. The money raised by the Walk Run ($40,000+) represents 40% of that, which means that as a result of the Walk Run we fed 20,000 people! The folks who participate in the Walk Run are truly making a difference. Most of the money raised by the Walk Run comes from people like you! – Folks who are participating as part of their church team. Why not join them? Youth and the Walk Run

We treasure youth involvement in the Walk Run. That’s why Pastor Greg Johnson from Zion started the Youth Rally Against Hunger, which will take place the night before (Friday, September 22), at St. Stephen’s Church in Wilmington. It will be sponsored by the area’s ministerium – Lutherans Involved in New CastleCounty or “LINCC” and promises to offer youth from all area Lutheran churches a ton of fun, music, worship and service opportunities. Contact Pastor Johnson at 658 5288 or for info.

Another new facet of the 2006 Walk Run is the Delaware High School Hunger 5K Classic. This is a competitive component of the Walk Run open to all high school age cross country runners. The cost to enter the High School Hunger Classic is $15 (18 and under) and includes a FREE T-shirt. The event will be run simultaneously with the Walk Run on Saturday September 23 in RockfordPark. If you want more informationabout the Delaware High School Hunger 5KClassic, see the new registration forms or contact Jane or Pierce Conlon at

United Way 2006

As it does every September the United Way of Delaware is gearing up for another successful campaign. Most companies participate and encourage their employees to consider making a contribution with a payroll deduction arrangement. Lutheran Community Services is an Affiliate Member of the United Way. This means that the only way we receive any United Way funds is if employees specifically designate on their forms that we are to receive them. To do this, you need to enter our number on your form:0719.
