Job Title:Community and Events Fundraiser
Responsible to:Fundraising and Relationship Manager
Salary:£26,000
Working Hours:35 hours per week
Location:The Society’s offices in Harpenden, Hertfordshire
Job Summary
To increase the Society’s income from events and community fundraising, expanding our supporter base, by strengthening existing relationships with individuals and organisations and creating new ones, and by developing new ways for them to support and engage with us.
Responsibilities
Events
Create and maintain an up to date annual calendar of fundraising events with details of participants and projected and raised income.
Produce and publish regular website and social media items to promote and encourage fundraising for the Society and participation in events and to support and thank fundraisers and donors.
Organise, manage and promote our existing events, working with other team members and/ or agencies to design and produce promotional materials to ensure the widest possible publicity and participationand the maximum income.
Ensure that excellent support is provided to those raising money for the Society, including the timely provision of information and materials, motivational communications and help in ensuring publicity via social media, local media and other channels.
Ensure that all necessary licenses and permissions are obtained for events, that risk assessments are carried out and recorded and all necessary steps to mitigate risk taken.
Ensure that all event participants and supporters at events are thanked warmly and appropriately.
Log and keep appropriate records of all events, participants and supporters on the Society’s database.
Regularly upload donation data from Virgin Money Giving and MyDonate into the CRM database, ensuring that ring-fenced fundraising is accurately allocated.
Be creative in researching and proposing new event fundraising opportunities, working out projected costs, income and timescales.
Community
Engage with community groups and organisations both in the area around the office and elsewhere in the country to encourage them to fundraise for the Society. This will from time to time involve going to meetings, making presentations or attending photo-calls or interviews.
Research and develop proposals and resources to encourage groups and organisations to fundraise for the Society and promote these actively.
Promote participation in Jeans for Genes Day on behalf of the A-T Society.
Log and maintain records of collection boxes and encourage their placement.
General
Log donations and ensure that donors are thanked quickly and appropriately.
Create and keep fresh and updated pages on the website dedicated to events and community fundraising in particular and contribute to the fundraising pages more generally.
Explore ways to encourage those families who do not yet support us to do so, in particular those who originally come from outside the UK and may not be familiar with the idea of supporting charities.
Produce and promote ideas, information and guidance to encourage more people to raise funds for the Society.
Regularly contribute items to celebrate and promote events and community fundraising for the magazine, website and social media.
Produce reports on your activity for each quarterly board meeting and on other occasions as required.
The post-holder will be working in a developing environment and may be expected to undertake other appropriate duties for the effective operation of the Society.
The post-holder will on a fairly regular basis be required to attend events outside the office and from time to time these may be in other parts of the country, at weekends or in the evening. On occasions, as at the annual Family Weekend, these may require an overnight stay. Time off in lieu will be given for these.
Person Specification
Essential
2 years’ experience of successful fundraising for a charity or similar organisation
Experience of organising events, ideally fundraising events, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity
Experience of using a CRM or similar database regularly
A confident telephone manner with the ability to speak appropriately in a range of different circumstancesand to create a rapport with people quickly
Ability to communicate in an up-beat and enthusiastic manner and to engage and motivate individuals and groups of people
Confidence in making presentations and speaking to large groups of people
Excellent computer skills, including experience of working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
An organised approach to work and attention to detail
Strong writing skills with the ability to write clearly and correctly in English for a wide range of audiences, including the ability to write a good letter
The ability to prioritise and plan your own work-load and to work independently and on your own initiative
The ability to work well as part of a small team
Familiarity with social media
The ability to work from time to time in the evenings or at weekends with the occasional overnight stay
Desirable
Basic design skills and the ability to produce attractive materials such as fliers and leaflets
Able to drive and with access to a car for occasional work use
Experience of living or working with people with a disability
