Position Title: ASSISTANT MANAGER OF ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS

Reports To: Director of Athletics and Manager of Athletic Communications

Supervises: Student workers, work study workers, interns and graduate assistant

Position Summary: The Assistant Manager of Athletic Communications is responsible for assisting the Manager of Athletic Communications in promoting the institutions 20 athletics programs and providing up-to-date and relevant athletics information to conference and national offices, opponents, the public, and news outlets.

Education Required: Master’s Degree (Preferred fields of study: Athletic Administration, Journalism, and/or Communication)

Experience Required: Minimum of two years’ experience working in an athletic communications office, or experience in the writing and/or sports marketing fields.

Skills, Characteristics Required for Position:

●Ability to administer components of sports information work (i.e., statistics, news media, website, publications) with good knowledge of computer systems;

●Ability to train student workers to aid in meeting athletic communication needs and to mentor student workers and interns;

●Ability to speak and write appropriately and develop marketing strategies to reach regional and national media and supporters;

●Demonstrate a commitment to continued learning/professional development (i.e., presentations, publications, serving on regional and/or national committees).

Special Working Conditions: Required to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Primary Duties
1. / Respond to media requests from the conference, NCAA, opponents, and local/national news outlets.
2. / Design, create and assist with coordinating production of publications, including seasonal schedules, game programs, and NCAA programs.
3. / Developing and coordinating marketing and promotional opportunities.
4. / Place newsworthy events with campus, hometown, local, and national media; Prepare special interest stories and press releases.
6. / Assist the Manager of Athletic Communication with managing the department website and other Social Media Outlets (i.e. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook).
7. / Assist the Manager of Athletic Communication in overseeing the work of student assistants, interns and game day personnel.
8. / Supervise statistics at contests and keep season statistics updated.
9. / Oversee the reporting of scores and other results to appropriate media after contests; Provide post game wrap-ups.
11. / Submit candidates for sport-specific and academic awards.
12. / Maintain up to date sport team rosters.
13. / Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
Secondary Duties
1. / Maintain sports information files.
2. / Other duties as assigned by Manager of Athletic Communications or Director of Athletics.
