OCME performs and documents mission critical medico-legal investigations; the results of which are highly beneficial to the judicial process. OCME’s Records department is a fee based department which maintains all case reports, autopsy file reports and documents consistent with a medical examiner case investigation. The accepted candidate for this position will participate in the electronics documentation and scanning process.

Responsibilities:

OCME is an active participant in New York City’s Disaster Response system, planning for and responding to disasters of all types. We maintain a team of specially trained experts to respond to any and all fatality events, no matter what hazards may be encountered during recovery. We work with the 311 System, NYPD, and NYC’s Office of Emergency Management to provide rapid assistance to family members, take reports of missing persons, investigate incidents, gather information for identifications, and disseminate information to other agencies. The OCME Evidence Department is responsible for maintaining the chain of custody for all evidence in the custodial domain of OCME. The Department requires the following:

Summer Workers will be assisting in several projects including but not limited to, cold case evidence searches, digitizing evidence records, cataloguing autopsy recordings, documents and film.

Summer Workers will have the opportunity to learn chain of custody guidelines in addition to laws and legal issues. In addition to making calls to law enforcement, law offices to request pickup of records.
