Deadline: Wednesday, March 8, 2017 – 3:00 p.m.
Background: The Noel Trust Engineering Scholarship Fund was established November 2006 by
Jim S. Noel in memory of his mother, Jean Stribling Noel. Mrs. Noel was
devoted to her family and worked very hard to provide for them. She continually
demonstrated a strong work ethic and deep love, commitment and faith to her
family and friends. This scholarship fund was established to help recognize her
contributions to her family and her community and to celebrate her zeal for life-
long learning.
Purpose: To recognize academic achievement and to provide funds for college-bound
engineering students. Financial need must be demonstrated.
Number of Recipients: One awarded Districtwide
Scholarship amount: To be determined.
Guidelines: a. The applicant should plan to pursue an engineering degree preferably with a goal
of becoming a registered professional engineer.
b. The applicant must be a graduating senior of a High School in Lee’s
Summit R-7.
c. The recipient shall in no way be limited by gender, race, religion, or any
other designation that could exclude an individual.
d. The applicant must be or must have been involved in civic, community
and extra-curricular activities.
e. The applicant must show academic achievement through high school.
Process: The Selection Committee, consisting of Foundation representatives,
Project Lead the Way representatives and a high school counselor, will
review the applications and, if desired, interview the candidates and
obtain any additional background information.
Scholarship Payment: The Scholarship will be made by a Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation
check payable jointly to the recipient and his or her choice of a higher
learning institution. To receive the scholarship check, recipient must send class schedule to Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation, Sheryl Franke, 301 NE Tudor Road, Lee's Summit, MO 64086 or fax it to 816-986-1170.

Please complete the following application and cover sheet by
Wednesday, March 8, 2017 and return it and
the required reference letters to your guidance counselor.
1. Why do you wish to become an engineer and what do you desire to accomplish in life?
2. Please list the field of engineering you plan to pursue and the schools where you have applied/been accepted.
3. What classes have most helped prepare you for the engineering field? Explain.
4. Tell about your involvement in extra-curricular school activities.
5. Explain your involvement in activities that are not school related (community, church, etc.).
6. What work and leadership experiences have you had?
7. Name three goals you have set for yourself that you wish to achieve.
8. What are your anticipated financial needs in college and why?
9. What portion of your college expenses will you be required to provide?
10. What, if any, unusual factors may limit your parents’/guardians’ contribution toward college expenses?
11. Attach two letters of recommendation from teachers and one letter of recommendation from a non-family member who has worked with you in a leadership capacity.
