JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT YOUTH WORKER (QUALIFIED/UNQUALIFIED)

Job Purpose:To work as a member of the SRYP Youth Work team to deliver work with young people that meets the organisations aims and objectives.

Line Managed by:Designated Youth Worker

Location:[Geographical area to be specified - not necessarily a SRYP base]

MAIN TASKS

1. YOUTH WORK

1.1 To be actively involved in face–to-face youth work with young people within the organisations target age range using a variety of youth work methods.

1.2 To work with young people, Youth Workers, Stakeholders and staff to identify young people’s interests and needs.

1.3To build positive relationships with young people which are based on value and trust.

1.4To encourage and support the personal and social development of young people.

1.5To deliver, record and evaluate individual youth work sessions and activities designed to meet the interests and needs of young people in accordance with the organisations requirements.

1.6To positively promote equal opportunities for all young people participating in SRYP youth work sessions and activities.

2. STAFFING

2.1To establish a positive working relationship with other organisational staff.

2.2To be an effective team member.

3. OTHER

3.1The post-holder will adhere to the policies and procedures of Somerset Rural Youth Project.

3.2The post-holder may be required by the Senior Management Team to undertake additional duties commensurate with this level of post.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The post-holder will work with young people, SRYP and partnership staff, other agencies / organisations / members of the community as appropriate.

LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

The post-holder will have delegated powers with respect to the delivery of youth work sessions. Other powers will be agreed as necessary with the Line manager

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. The post is paid on SRYP Asst Youth Worker salary

- Qualified Level £17,697 per annum based on 37 hours a week

- Unqualified Level £15,324 per annum based on 37 hours a week.

  1. The appointment is subject to satisfactory medical and Enhanced DBS Disclosure and satisfactory completion of a six-week probationary period.
  1. The hours of work will be pro rata 37 hours and involve pro rata a maximum of eight evening sessions a fortnight, 46 weeks per year.
  1. The work will involve evening, weekend and out of term commitments.
  1. The annual leave entitlement is pro rata 28 days (33 days after 5 years continuous employment) plus 2 statutory days and bank holidays, to be taken at times agreed with your Line Manager.
  1. The appointment will be terminated on either side by giving one month’s notice in writing.
  1. An appropriate travel allowance will be paid for travel incurred whilst on SRYP official business, to and from a designated travel base.
