A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT OF AMANDA SOMERS, DARLENE POPE, AND LANCE OWENS OF SPORTS SPINE & INDUSTRIAL (SSI) FOR BEING AWARDED BY THE SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION WITH THE 2007 SOUTH CAROLINA SMALL BUSINESS PERSONS OF THE YEAR.
Whereas, Amanda Somers, Darlene Pope, and Lance Owens are principal owners of the Greer-based company, Sports Spine and Industrial (SSI); and
Whereas, Amanda Somers, Darlene Pope, and Lance Owens won the Small Business Administration’s 2007 Small Business Persons of the Year; and
Whereas, Amanda Somers, company president, founded SSI in 2002 in Greer as a private physical therapy clinic. The company became profitable within two months. Nine months later, SSI expanded to a second location, managed by future partner Darlene Pope, in Simpsonville. In March 2003, Darlene Pope and Lance Owens purchased 66 2/3 percent of the company stock, became equal shareholders with Amanda Somers, and together, and they created the partnership that owns and operates SSI today. Most recently, SSI opened a facility in Greenville; and
Whereas, in 2004, just two years after opening, SSI launched a two million dollar expansion of its Greer facility to expand its services beyond traditional therapy and built a facility for the entire community to improve public health. The result was the Performance Training and Wellness Center, a medically oriented gym, which features wellness coaches for individuals wishing to make lifestyle changes; and
Whereas, the center also offers programs for advanced athletes and hosts the community’s youth athletic programs. Staff members present educational programs to local community centers and churches, and work with athletes and coaches on injury prevention education. The 12,000 foot facility has over 800 active members; and
Whereas, SSI, its partners and employees spend countless hours giving back to their community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the remarkable achievements of Amanda Somers, Darlene Pope, and Lance Owens, as well as the entire staff of SSI, and wish them continued success in the future.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Amanda Somers, Darlene Pope and Lance Owens of SSI.
