8.PURPOSE:
This unit standard is intended for people who pick stock for despatch to stores/customers in a Distribution Centre or Warehouse. Persons credited with this unit standard operate in a fairly defined context, with limited problem solving or non-routine situations.
These persons are able to identify stock listed on a picking advice, pick the correct quantity, pack and move the stock ready for despatch to customers/stores in a manner that prevents losses and enhance the efficiency of the supply chain.
9.LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE:
It is assumed that the learner has completed the following area of learning before attempting this unit standard
- Numeracy and Literacy at ABET Level 4
- The use of applicable machinery/equipment for picking of stock in the organisation

Specific Outcome 1
Interpret instructions to pick stock
Assessment criteria
1.1.From where picking instructions are to be collected is identified according to organisational procedures
1.2Using the picking instruction the correct product in the correct location is identified according to organisational procedures
1.3The quantity to be picked is identified and explained according to the picking instruction.
1.4The packing configuration is identified and explained according to the picking instruction

Pick stock
Assessment criteria
2.1.The effect of incorrect picking on the business and DCX is explained
2.2.Appropriate packing containers/packaging is selected according to the characteristics of the stock and organisational policy
2.3The appropriate picking method is selected according to the characteristics of the stock, the location of the stock and organisational policy and procedures
2.4The correct stock is picked based on the details on the picking instruction
2.5Possible problems are identified; the problem categorised and how to handle the problems explained according to organisational procedures.
2.6.Housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the picking process as required by the organisation.

Stock is moved to load points.
Assessment criteria
3.1The stock/containers are tagged/marked with destination markings according to organisational requirements
3.2.Load points are identified and correct load points chosen to suit the delivery.
3.3Stock is picked/moved to load points within required timeframes according to organisational requirements
3.4.Stock is picked, packed and moved in such a way as to minimize damages.

Prevent shrinkage and losses while picking stock
Assessment criteria
4.1Shrinkage and losses are explained in relation to the profits of the organisation and their impact on employees
4.2Ways in which shrinkage and losses occur are explained in relation to picking stock in a DC
4.3Shrinkage and loss prevention measures are implemented while picking stock in the DC
4.4.Stock that is packed in an unsafe manner is identified and handled according to organisational requirements, where applicable.
11.ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION
Programmes leading to the award of credits from this unit standard will be accredited by the Wholesale and Retail SETA in its ETQA role. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the Wholesale and Retail ETQA.
Internal Moderations will be performed by the Accredited Providers whilst the Wholesale and Retail ETQA will perform external moderations of assessments across the Accredited Providers according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
