Leadership Standard Targeted:School leaders, students, and community members will collaborate as an SLC to analyze school progress thus far school safety.

- Discuss plans for improving systems related to school safety for the remainder of the year.

- Create and send out a survey to students, parents, and staff regarding school safety and climate
- Calendar upcoming drills for the 15-16 year and publicize
- Update the school website with School Safety Committee news
- Review the School Safety Plan and revise for January SSC meeting approval and March school board approval
- Recruit more parents, staff and students to participate and create a web list to share news with those who cannot attend

- Lockdowns have occurred Nov. 10th and Nov. 17th
- Drills scheduled for the remainder of the year are posted on-line; next drill is December 10th full evacuation and lockdown
- School Safety Plan will be viewed at December meeting to edit remaining areas of need

There are additional officers on campus through December. No updates at this time about further additional coverage after December.
There are additional HPD officers/patrols in the community to assist with parent and students’ reports.
Discipline Policy can be viewed through district website under Student Services. Will post it on HHS site also.
There are mixed feelings about metal detectors. Some students and parents would like them. Others don’t want campus to feel like a “prison”. We have had no incidents with students either caught with weapons on campus or using them to harm others this year.
Discussed services for students: need for more counseling services for all students that are based on campus (not referral programs). Too many students have socio-emotional issues that need therapeutic help. Need funding from the district level to place additional counseling resources on site full-time.
Need additional credit recovery options at HHS. Many students who do unsafe things are behind on credits. If they had hopes of graduating, they would be less likely to cause trouble.
Need more connections to school (pride). Suggestion of monthly lessons to student to promote safety and positive behaviors.
Talked about work-related options for students. In the past there was SCROC. Students received trade training with course credit on their transcripts for participating. Participating in this program gave students a goal for their career/job and also helped them recover credits. We need an option like this for our students again.
Discussed the discipline matrix and levels of discipline. The district is reviewing their progressive discipline models to see if current focus on Restorative Practices is effective. There seems to be a feeling that “students don’t get disciplined” leading to more extreme behaviors. This is being reviewed at the district level.

- Create a checklist of items committee will complete
- Disseminate items through email group for safety committee
- Get a schedule for lessons to be presented to students on a monthly basis
- Create a student, staff and parent/guardian survey. Post on-line and make available for students to take prior to December meeting for feedback about safety
- Recruit more students and parents for the committee
- Create an area on HHS website for regular updates and postings related to the Safety Committee and school safety
