Dear Parent/Guardian,

Football Competition

The first football competition of the new academic year took place at Wickford Town Football club on Tuesday 3rd October. The first central event was contested with teams from Oakfield, Grange, Hilltop Juniors, North Crescent, Wickford Juniors and Runwell.

Matches were played with great sportsmanship and a fast tempo as games only lasted 8 minutes. 20 goals were scored in total, but there were also some fantastic saves from the goalkeepers.

I am delighted to report that Wickford Juniors won the event with two wins, two score draws and a no score draw. Along with Grange we will be going through to the the Partnership final on Wednesday 18th October at William de Ferrers School.

This competition is the first of three central venues to be held over the next 6 months. The points from each event will be added together to find the Wickford Football Central Venue Winner.

A big thank you to Wickford Town for hosting the event and their fantastic referees who took charge of the games. Congratulations goes to: Jake Heard (6F), Thato Molefi (6F), Joe Penny (5F), Daniel Pearce (6F), George Ganney (6E), Max Wishart (5F), Calum Bailey (5W), Jacob Heather (6E), Felix Fletcher (6F) and Sid Stevens (5W).

As the next round is taking place during the week that Year 6 is at Overstrand, our Year 5’s will be representing us.

Year 2 Parents Evening - Thursday 12th October 7.30 – 8.30pm

With apologies we have needed to start slightly later next week at 7.30 p.m. At the meeting we will be going over the admissions process for next year which will change due to the amalgamation between Wickford Infants and the Juniors.

Parent Forum – Tuesday 3rd October 2pm

Thanks to the parents who attended the meeting. Amongst other things we discussed parents evenings and the possibility of giving more information on the teaching of maths. In both cases I will get back to you once we have discussed this fully.

Bikeabilty

Well done to all the Year 4 children who took part. Certificates were handed out in assembly this morning. Over 50 children got certificates which is great and we have discussed the possibility of putting in extra year sessions for children who did not get a place this time in the summer term.

Messages at the office

We are having quite a few parents queuing at the office in the mornings asking for messages to be passed to the class teacher. We constantly have to interrupt classes first thing in the morning for things that are not urgent. Please note that unless it is an emergency any messages will not be passed on until break time so that lessons are not disrupted. If your child’s teacher needs to be aware of ‘your child not having done their homework’, ‘not swimming’, ‘not able to do PE’, etc. please send in a note with your child to give to their teacher first thing.

Photographs

Orders can be made online via Braiswick. If you are returning your order to the school office please return your completed pack by Friday 13th October, otherwise you may incur a late charge by the photographers.

Mobiles

Whilst I understand children having mobiles if they walk to school and from school on their own, but please note there is no reason for children, in any year group, to bring in mobiles if parents are bringing them in and collecting them at the end of the day.

Waiting at the school gates

Please do not smoke or wait with dogs within 5 metres of the school gate. Please be respectful of this, thank you.

Year 6 Overstrand – Monday 16th October

Please ensure that your child is at school between 8.15 - 8.25am on Monday as the coaches are leaving at 8.30am. Children need to register with Mrs. Thomson (coach 1) or Mr. Donnellan (coach 2) when they arrive, then go straight on the coach. The children will be told nearer the time which coach they are on. If your child is asthmatic or needs an inhaler please make sure your child takes 2 with them. Please also make sure blue reliever inhalers are labelled, Mrs. Ramet is to be given the spare one only and ensure your child is carrying the other one. All medication must be clearly labeled and given to Mrs. Ramet on Monday morning.

If you are giving your child snacks for the journey please provide bottled water and a healthy snack - remember no nut products please. Children will be having lunch when they arrive at the centre.

We will send out a text to let you know the children have arrived safely and the website will be updated daily: ‘Year 6 Residential 2017’.

Reminder: The information booklet is on the website ‘Our Community’, ‘Year Groups’, ‘Year 6’, and ‘Year 6 Residential Info’. The information booklet can be downloaded.
