American Idol Tryouts in San Francisco

1:11 p.m. – Kai Kalama, from San Clemente, has been affected by his mother’s seizures. Before singing a song in his audition, he says, “Mom, this song’s for you.” His audition goes very well, because he seems like he is truly singing from the heart. Abdul likes him, DioGuardi thinks he needs to “get his performance up” and Cowell wants to give him another chance. Four “yeses” means he has made it to Hollywood. Kalama calls home to tell his family the good news and they cheer for him. He tells the camera that he is so excited that he will be able to take care of the ones he loves.

1:03 p.m. – Adam Lambert, from Hollywood, is very confident in his audition. He sings Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody very beautifully. He and his voice are very unique. He clearly made the song his own. Cowell thinks he is very “theatrical,” Jackson thinks he is a good singer and DioGuardi thinks he has a good voice. After the judges vote him through, Lambert kisses DioGuardi and shakes hands with Jackson and Cowell. “I’m going back home to Hollywood,” Lambert says. “I made it!”

I think this Californian deserves to go all the way. Instead of acting and singing in the musical, “Wicked,” he should be touring the world and revealing his talent to everyone.

1:02 p.m. – Annie Murdoch, from San Francisco, is very nervous and changes her song at the last minute. DioGuardi thinks her song was “so overdone.” She is surprised and doesn’t go through to Hollywood.

12:55 p.m. – Dalton Powell is now auditioning for American Idol after successfully solving a Rubik’s Cube dilemma. He sings very softly with his eyes closed, but it is “murder” to an average person’s ears. “You’ve shown great intelligence,” Cowell sarcastically says, but he and the other judges still don’t put him through. Maybe he should just stick to fooling around with his “cube.”

12:45 p.m. - Jesus Valenzula, whose children encouraged him to try out, is auditioning, as well. “It’s not going to work…you’re a nice guy, but you’re not going to win this,” Cowell says. At the judges’ request, Valenzula brings his children into the room to try to persuade the judges to vote him in. They carry posters in support of their dad and then Valenzula sings another song. Afterward, Abdul, DioGuardi and Jackson all say “yes.” The guests outside the door all rejoice and jump for joy as they find out the positive result.

12:42 p.m. – Dean Anthony-Bradford, from Los Angeles, is a failed entrepreneur. His audition is a total disaster as he belts out out-of-tune notes. Jackson says it was “wild,” while Cowell says, “the outfit is as bad as I’ve seen.” The final vote was a “no.” Anthony-Bradford thinks the coat is what caused it. I think it was his awful voice.

12:30 p.m. – Tatiana Del Toro, a Puerto Rican model with an extremely annoying laugh, is trying out for American Idol this afternoon. After singing her song, Simon Cowell thinks she would do a lot of things well, “but not singing.” Del Toro keeps interrupting Cowell with different songs to make a point that she can sing. However, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi like her, so she has now been put through to Hollywood. Ecstatic about the result, Del Toro holds up her certificate for the camera and continually laughs that annoying laugh.
