Code for Sustainable Homes Awareness Seminar

The Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) published the ‘Code for Sustainable Homes’ as a single standard for the sustainable construction and design of new homes in England in December2006[1]. This system is based on BRE’s ‘EcoHomes’ scheme and BRE is working in partnership with CLG to operate the assessment of homes under this new system.

To promote the launch of the Code For Sustainable Homes, BRE is holding a series of seminars, titled ‘The Code for Sustainable Homes – Explained’ at the BRE site in Garston, Watford. The dates and times are listed below:

* Exact times to be confirmed and can change prior to the seminar, a morning seminar may run in addition to a pm seminar.

The seminar

This free BRE seminar will provide abrief introduction to the Code for Sustainable Homes and demonstrate how this environmental assessment method can help to meet sustainability targets.

The aim of the event is to give people a better idea of what the Code for Sustainable Homes will mean to them so they can prepare for its introduction.

The seminar is intended for building industry professionals, housing procurers and local authorities.

By the end of the seminar participants will have an understanding of:

Why the Code is important
What the Code is
Where it applies
Who is involved
How it will be implemented
An overview of the Code contents
Some of the main differences between EcoHomes and the Code
How it is likely to develop in the future

All candidates will receive a CPD certificate for 3 hours and refreshments will be provided at the event.
