MANAGER AT THE EPISCOPAL TRAINING CENTRE (ETC)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Location and background
ETC main office is located in Hadayek, Maadi. Arabic and English courses are held here, as well as Arabic courses in our Zamalek branch. ETC is a Christian based organization which welcomes students worldwide, from all backgrounds, cultures, colours and creeds.
Required qualifications
The suitable candidate must have a spirit of commitment and a heart to serve the community.
The candidate must be a native English speaker
Teaching qualifications are a necessity, either CTEFLA or equivalent, or other, more general teaching certificates or degrees. Experience is also required.
Experience in leadership (Head of Department, leadership role in other business or school), would be a bonus, but is not imperative.
Ability to speak Arabic would be a bonus, but not a necessity.
Duties (both departments)
The candidate should be flexible as duties must be shared across the two departments, which operate at different times. Arabic classes are generally held from 8am to 2pm, and English classes from 6pm to 9pm, Sunday through Thursday midday. Visits to the Zamalek branch from time to time are also required.
Liaise with departments as to days of work; some morning sessions, some evening sessions.
Liaise with Heads of Department in responding to email requests for lessons, almost always in English.
Follow up requests made in person at the centre.
Liaise with receptionists to follow up production of course books.
Support teachers with any major problems arising from student complaints.
Hold staff meetings where appropriate, and liaise with department heads over feasibility of joint workshops/training sessions.
The suitable candidate is responsible for overseeing all advertising and marketing, and to discuss and delegate this aspect of the business to reception, since they have the “ear” of the student. Budgets must be discussed with the office manager.
Clearly defined parameters should be given to members of staff to ensure they know what their duties are, and can carry them out.
English Department
Liaise with Office Manager to set course dates.
Observe all teachers in class, and act as support and guidance.
Monitor teacher evaluations carried out in week 3 of each course.
All aspects of the department are on computer, thus candidate needs to become familiar with the systems and their operation.
Candidate must be prepared to “stand in” as either a teacher in an emergency, or at the reception desk.
Interview all prospective English teachers.
Supervise and solve any staff requests for time off during course duration and ensure all classes are covered.
General.
Liaise with office manager in respect of minor repairs required in the building, in order to maintain a professional ambience.
Follow up duties and encourage and support the two cleaners, very important members of the ETC family.
