Partial payments do not guarantee registrationIn order for class to start, all classes must have at least 2 registered. Classes with less than 2 registrants will be cancelled 2 weeks prior to the start date so please do not wait until the last minute. Hopitutuqaiki welcomes everyone and does not discriminate by race or other characteristics; however, classes may be specifically designed for a specific age category for safety or other reasons and some are limited to those who are Hopi initiates. Educators may be able to use Hopitutuqaiki classes for Continuing Education Credit. Check with your school.
Mar 5-16Moccasin Making--Lewis Abeita—6pm-9pm, Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi.
M-FLearn to make moccasins Pueblo style and Hopi style. Use of all materials and tools is included with paid tuition. Class is limited to 4 Hopi initiated students. Tuition: $120.
Mar 6-Apr 26Hopi Language- speak first, read and write later!—Ramson Lomatewama, 6:30-8:00pm, Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi
T & Th This class is primarily for those high school students and adults who have minimal or no Hopi conversational skills, although more experienced speakers are welcome as well. Our goal is to grow our conversational skills via “functional language” and student generated topics. English use will gradually decrease as your listening and speaking skills grow. Class is limited to 6 initiated Hopi students. Tuition: $100.
Mar 19-23Zuni Dress—Eileen Navakuku 6pm-9pm, Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi.
M-FLearn to make a Zuni dress traditional wear. Because all machines are different it is suggested that participants use their own machine, however the school can loan out a machine upon request. Class is limited to 6 students who already know how to sew with a machine, 14 to adult. Tuition: $60.
Mar. 19-23 Introduction to Machine Sewing--Ella M. Humetewa 9am to 12pm, Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi, AZ.
M-FThis class is for beginners who have an interest in learning to sew and for those who would like a review of basic sewing techniques. Topics include fabric selection, use of machines, equipment and supplies. Participants are asked to bring their own machines to create a pillowcase and place mat, otherwise machines are available upon request. Class size is limited to 4 students, ages 13 – adult. Tuition: $60
Mar. 26-30 Introduction to Machine Sewing--Donna Kaye 6pm to 9pm, Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi, AZ

May 21-25 Garment Sewing-Dress Making, Donna Kaye, 9am to 1pm, Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi, AZ
M -FAdapt a simple dress pattern to create your own dress, accenting it with native inspired fabric. Participants will learn to fit a pattern to size. General sewing experience is required. Participants are encouraged to use their own machines however, Hopitutuqaiki can loan out a machine upon request. Class size is limited to 6 students, 13 to adult. Tuition $60.
May 21-June 15Women’s Shawl (Atu’u) weaving-- Akema Honyumptewa, 7:30am-Noon, Loloma Studio Piki House, HWY 264 MP 368.2.
M-FLearn to weave the red and white women’s ceremonial cape. Looms, yarns and tools will be provided. Class is limited to 5 students, must be initiated and must know how to make kilts or belts or both. Tuition: $240.

June 4-29Hopi Language Preschool—Jolene Lomayaktewa, 9am-1pm, Kykotsmovi Headstart Center.
Is Hopi language important to you and your family? Give your child a start in Hopi language. Preschool activities in Hopi language and the arts. including local field trips and lunches. Class size is limited to 8 students, 3 and 4 years old, must be toilet trained. Parent assistance will be scheduled. Tuition: $100.
June 4-29 Hopi Belts--Marvin Pooyouma, 7am-noon, Bacavi Hardware Building.
M-FLearn to weave Hopi style and Navajo style belts. Use of looms, tools and yarns is included with paid tuition. Class is limited to 6 Hopi initiated students. The techniques learned in this class will be used in other weaving classes. Tuition: $240.
June 4-29Hopi Kilts—Austin Lomatewama, 8am to noon, Kykotsmovi Independent Church Classroom.
M-F Learn to weave Hopi kilt (pitkuna). The use of looms, tools, yarn and string is included with paid tuition. Class is limited to 3 Hopi initiated students, 14 years old to adult. The techniques learned in this class will be used in other weaving classes. Tuition: $240.
June 4-June 29Embroidery (for Pitkuna)—Lorencita Saufkie, 6pm-9pm, Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi
M-FLearn to do the embroidery for pitkuna. Bring your own blank pitkuna weaving (kwatskyavu) if you have one. If not, monk’s cloth will be provided. This embroidery can also apply to a vest or skirt. The use of tools and yarn are included with paid tuition. Class size is limited to 6 students, 18 years old to adult. Tuition: $240.
June 4-15Airbrush Painting—Anthony Honahnie, 8am-noon, Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi. 8am-noon.
M-FLearn to use the tools and explore airbrush techniques. Airbrush can be used for paintings, dolls, pottery, etc. Use of tools and materials is included with paid tuition. Class size is limited to 4 students, 7th grade to adult. Tuition: $120.
June 11-27Beginning Hopi Wicker Plaques—Harriet Lomatska, 8am-noon, Loloma Studio (HWY 264 MP 368.2).
M-FLearn the techniques to make a yungyapu from start to finish, collect and prepare materials, learn terminology. Materials and tools are provided with paid tuition. If students can get sticks, bring them. Two additional days will be scheduled in September to collect and prepare sticks. Class size is limited to 6 students, Jr. High to adult, initiated at Third Mesa. Tuition: $180.
June 11-15Hopi Foods--Iva Honyestewa, 8am-noon, Iskasokpu Gallery, Second Mesa.
M-FFrom corn to many different kinds of food. Students will have hands-on experience in all aspects of making Hopi food. The class will prepare the ingredients, cook, and get to eat the products. Class size is limited to 6 students, 8 years old to adult. Tuition: $60.
June 18-29 Stained Glass—Ramson Lomatewama, 8am-noon, Sonwai Studio, Hotevilla (HWY 264 MP 368.2).
M-FLearn to cut and construct with colored glass to make stained glass windows and hangings. The use of tools and materials is included with paid tuition. Class is limited to 4 students, 14 years to adult. Tuition: $120.
June 18-29Sifter Basket Weaving—Stephanie Kayquoptewa, 8am-noon (8-4 on some days to gather materials), HotevillaGlassworks, Hotevilla
M-F (HWY 264, MP 368). This class will be a hands-on experience for making sifter baskets. Gather and prepare materials, tools, techniques. Use of tools is included with paid tuition. There will be a field trip to Museum of Northern Arizona to look at baskets in their archives. Class size is limited to 6 Hopi initiated students. Tuition: $120.

July 23-27Special Projects in the Arts—James McGrath, 8am-noon, Loloma Studio (HWY 264 MP 368.2)
M-F Study with a Living Treasure of Santa Fe. Bring ideas for any project in painting, writing, clay, teaching, mixed media, book making, dance or other area. Materials and tools are included with paid tuition. Class size is limited to 7 students, Jr. High School to adult. Tuition: $60.

Aug 27-30 Opportunity Quilt—Linda Visnaw & Donna Kaye—9am-3pm, Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi.
M-Th A quilting party! Working together to make a quilt that will be raffled to raise money for Hopitutuqaiki, to be shown at several quilt shows in the region. Use of machines, tools and material is included with registration. Bring your own machine if you prefer. This will be an old-fashioned quilting party! Class size is limited to 7 students, 14 years old to adult with previous quilting experience. No Tuition.
Aug 27-Sept. 6 Modern Quilt Making-Ella M. Humetewa 10am to 3pm, Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi, AZ
M-ThSat Modern machine quilt making techniques will be taught including fabric selection and care, rotary cutter, machine quilting versus tying and quilt binding. Participants are expected to complete a baby quilt. This class includes a special Saturday (8/1 10am to 3pm) workshop on Free-motion Quilting. Participants are asked to bring their own machines in order to become more familiar with them, however the school can loan a machine upon request. Class size is limited to 4 students, age 16-adult. General sewing knowledge is encouraged. Tuition $150
Sept. 10-14 Day-to-Night Open Sewing – Donna Kaye 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Hopitutuqaiki, Kykotsmovi, AZ
M-F This class will be open to all current and former sewing participants who wish to complete a past unfinished Hopitutuqaiki class project. The class is limited to 8 students. Students are encouraged to use their own sewing machines, however the school can loan a machine upon request. Tuition $25
