GRAMPIAN POST (BASED ABERDEEN)

JOB TITLE : Financial Wellbeing Officer (29 hours p/w)

ACCOUNTABLE TO : SHA Board of Directors via the Chief Executive

REPORT TO : Senior Financial Wellbeing Officer

QUALIFICATIONS : Experience in delivering welfare rights advice, advocacy, debt and money advice, Wiser Adviser training (or equivalent)

SALARY : £25,716 pro rata

Job Summary

The post holder will provide information, advice, guidance and support to people living with Huntington’s disease (HD) on a range of money issues; accessing welfare benefits, debt and planning for the future. You will provide second tier support to SHA staff on complex benefits issues and represent clients at appeals and tribunals. You will undertake financial health checks with all of SHA’s clients, contacting all clients systematically over the life time of the project to offer support. The post holder will also support a group of wellbeing volunteers to provide support advice and assistance with the completion of benefits forms.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  To provide a range of information, advice, guidance and support on a wide range of money issues; welfare benefits, debt and future planning.

2.  To carry out financial health checks for all clients known to the SHA and those newly referred and competently assess the financial issues facing families living with HD.

3.  To maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise about welfare reform, debt and future planning on money issues.

4.  To provide effective representation to clients at appeals and tribunals.

5.  To develop and deliver training and education to SHA staff on money issues.

6.  To develop and deliver training and education to external agencies about the specific money issues that affect people living with Huntington’s disease.

7.  To work with the National Volunteer Coordinator to train and support Wellbeing Volunteers to provide first tier support to people living with HD on money issues.

8.  To work with other members of the Wellbeing Volunteer team to develop information resources for the SHA web site.

9.  To maintain accurate records of work undertaken with all clients.

10. To maintain the SHA’s database in relation to work undertaken.

11. To participate and contribute actively to team meetings, discussions and the development of the service.

12. To comply with the charity’s policies and value framework.

The post-holder will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to organise their own workload, have experience using Microsoft office, book keeping skills and have worked within an office environment.
