Job Summary/Purpose:

The Nurse Manager of Special care Services is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of staff, patients, departmental and organizational needs. The responsibilities include 24-hour accountability for day-to-day management and long term planning of the specialty patient care areas. The Nurse Manager serves as a role model for professional excellence in the administration and delivery of patient care for all age groups.

Minimum Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing

Current StateIllinois Registered Nurse License

Minimum of 3 years critical care or emergency nursing experience.

Previous nursing management experience preferred.

Strong organizational, verbal and written skills.

CPR or ACLS certified

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform light to heavy work, which includes frequent lifting and positioning of patients.
  • For greater than 50 pounds it may be expected that the nurse will request assistance from a co-worker for lifting and transferring.
  • Ability to stand/walk 6 to 8 hours per shift.
  • Ability to frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop and occasionally kneel and squat.
  • Ability to perform various repetitive tasks i.e., simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation (keyboard).
  • Good visual acuity is required for patient assessment, medication administration and documentation of care.
  • Good hearing is essential for accurate patient assessment.
  • All employees within this job classification may have high risk exposure to blood borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.

Manage the patient flow of the department.

Selects qualified new staff members, as warranted, to assure that standards for quality delivery of care are met.
