Overall purpose of job:
To provide a professional Business Location Service to members of the public and business community ensuring the service adheres to all relevant service plans and strategies with relevant performance indicators to meet the Council’s Priorities.
Enable the economy of North Lincolnshire to grow through the provision and determining of an encompassing Business Location Service targeting Inward Investment and Indigenous companies and individuals.
Post holders will be expected to be flexible in undertaking the duties and responsibilities attached to their post and may be asked to perform other duties, which reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.
Main responsibilities:
- In conjunction with the team, identify and develop opportunities for development and continuous improvement of the Business Location Service. Also ensuring the Business Location Service is integrated with the other services provided by the Division.
- Maximise the effective use of resources in providing the Business Location Service.
- Management of the economic development customer contact system.
- To receive initial enquiries and assist in the persuasion of clients to locate or expand within North Lincolnshire.
- Provide a comprehensive enquiry response service to members of the public, colleagues, officers of other department and divisions, business community and other organisations, ensuring that co-operation with other agencies and departments is made appropriately, fully utilising the Customer Contact System.
- To work with other divisions of North Lincolnshire Council and external bodies to ensure the needs of the clients are met for the Business Location Service.
- To attend exhibitions, events and other functions to raise the profile of the North Lincolnshire area to develop client awareness.
- Liase with other information providers to ensure complementary services and enquiry coverage and develop joint initiatives where necessary.
- Present information in report form, or verbally to groups and take action or feedback as appropriate.
- Assist in the development and organisation of seminars and events.
- Produce marketing material for the council owned land and property in conjunction with Property Team in various formats including brochures, advertising and web pages.
- Provide and analyse statistical information such as enquiry levels and analysis of property enquiries for use by the business team members, officers from other departments and external organisations.
- Any other duties that is commensurate with the grade of the post.
- Develop and update the team’s web presence and twitter, face book presence.
- Co-ordinate the North Lincs Business Network.
Knowledge, skill and experience:
- Knowledge of business and industry environment in relation to Economic Development
- Knowledge of council policies, procedures & services
- Knowledge of types of property
- Knowledge of industrial and commercial property market
- Knowledge of marketing properties

- Experience of dealing with officers, members of the public and company representatives

- Experience of different software packages including customer contact system.
Creativity and innovation:
The day-to-day work centres around administering the Business Location Service entering data onto the client management system. The work requires a high degree of integrity and accuracy and requires the postholder to be responsive to customer demands i.e. identifying suitable sites and premises to put forward to the enquirer, responding to queries and ensuring data is current.
Assist with appropriate advertising campaigns both locally and nationally. Assist with the production of flyers and information sheets to be distributed locally and nationally and relevant details regarding the Business Location Service on the North Lincolnshire Council’s web page. Consideration for any additional marketing/advertising should be made outside the marketing strategy. In conjunction with the property section to produce marketing details for council owned sites and premises, which can then be marketed.
As part of the Business Location Service, customer care is adhered to at all times including response and follow-up to the enquiries. Follow-ups are by means of phone; letter; e-mail or fax ensuring the service is professional. Any additional actions would then be addressed accordingly.

Financial resources:
Managing cash/cheque/Bacs payments from North Lincs Business Network members, which may equate to a maximum of £300 cash per monthly meeting. Cash may be held overnight for next day banking. Responsibility shared with one other colleague per meeting.
Physical resources:
Laptop value £300. 20% usage away from normal base
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work demands:
- Requests for impromptu advice on business enquires
- Some routine aspects to the job e.g. monthly updates.
- Interruptions from staff on a occasionally, either personal visits or telephone calls, over a range of issues.
Physical demands:
The postholder will be expected to set-up and attend exhibitions, at least 4 times per year, which may be outdoors or in a private sector venue. Appropriate risk assessments will be undertaken.
Working conditions:
Mainly office based.
The post holder will be expected to attend businesses and business events with other colleagues.
On occasion accompany clients on land and site visits.
Work context:
Responsible for own health and safety in and around the workplace within the guidelines set by North Lincolnshire Council.
Adhere to Health and Safety regulations of external business premises.
