Job Purpose: Responsible for the development and running of systems and services which together make up the core library management suite in support of discovery of academic information. Working with third party providers such as SIrsiDynix supplier of the Symphony LMS,and associated digital information systemsthe post holder will support thedevelopment and implementation of systems and infrastructure to meet Library needs. The post holder manages relationships with external suppliers and iSolutions (in-house IT Services)in a context of increasinguse of cloud-based hostedsolutions and software as a service.
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities
  1. Take operational responsibility for development of the Library Management Suite (SirsiDynix Symphony ILS) and other related systems and applications working with third party suppliers and iSolutions, including ongoing management of WebCat (the current library catalogue)
  1. Support new developments and systems integration such as the implementation of a new Archives Management System and integration of data repositories such as the Delphis Discovery Service (EBSCO Discovery), the VLE and other repositories to ensure streamlined information capture, discovery and access.
  1. Work with iSolutions and other parties on resolution of access issues for different groups based on developing a sound understanding of options for authentication such as Shibboleth, Athens and EZProxy.
  1. Liaise with external suppliers, University IT operations and systems analysts and with expert users to ensure appropriate support for business as usual (BAU)
  1. Maintain professional knowledge and awareness of technical and digital developments in a rapidly changing landscape. Advise or direct to specialist sources of advice to support the senior leadership team in understanding the technical implications of strategic decisions including advising on management of risk.
  1. Analyse complex operational issues, develop recommendations, working with relevant parties to scope alternative process and systems options and developing process requirements or user requirements to inform development.

Monitor systems performance including using appropriate analytics and maintain technical documentation, commissioning or developing reporting as needed in response to feedback within a framework of service level agreements, working with business analysts and expert users on specific projects and taking forward required development with third party suppliers
  1. Plan upgrades and data integration projects, coordinating and scheduling technical and financial resources and managing communications
  1. Identify the development needs of staff working with library systems as end- users or in systems support roles contributing to their training and development.
  1. Contribute to the overall strategic development of Library Services participating in professional and technical groups and networks and representing the Library internally and externally contributing to sector projects as appropriate

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
Degree, HND, NVQ4 qualifiedin a relevant subject or professional qualification, or equivalent and appropriate technicalunderstanding based on experience to an equivalent level
Demonstrable technical experiencein a service-oriented organisation.
Ability to understand the configuration and application of an integrated Library Management System in an academic environment – based on experience of working with a similar system in a large and complex organisation
Experience of managing projects which involve the upgrade, migration or major development of software or information systems, in communication with stakeholders
An ability to identify systems and technical trends and developments with an impact on the HE Sector and the area of work
Specific technical desirables
Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office applications eg Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Visio, and MS Project
Knowledge of common web technologies, Java, xml, SQL and MySQL platforms
Knowledge of Linux and Perl
