Outstanding Student Member of the Year Award Criteria & Application

The purpose of the Outstanding Student Member of the Year Award is to recognize a student member of the Public Health/Community Nutrition Practice Group (PHCNPG) who has exhibited outstanding service, leadership and accomplishment.

A. Eligibility Criteria for the Outstanding Student Member of the Year Award

  1. Identified as a student member by the Academy and is a student member of the PHCNPG.
  2. Not previously selected as the PHCNPG Outstanding Student Member or Young Member of the Year.
  3. Participated and provided leadership in PHCNPG activities, such as committee service, newsletter contributions, or involvement in association activities at district, state and national levels.
  4. Demonstrated active involvement in health-related organizations (professional and voluntary), such as committee work at area, state, or national organizations.
  5. Demonstrated involvement in academic coursework, thesis or intent to practice in public health/community nutrition.
  6. Self-nominations are permitted.
  7. Not a current member of the Award Selection Committee or the PHCNPG Executive Committee.

B. Procedure for Selection

Upon submission of the application by May 31, 2018to Alice Lenihan, MPH, RD, LDat he PHCNPG Awards Committee will review and make selections.

C.Award

Each year, the individual selected will receive an award of $500 and an inscribed plaque, presented at the PHCNPG Business Meeting at the Academy’s Food & Nutrition Conference & ExpoTM (FNCE®). The individual will also be featured in TheDigest newsletter.

Identify how the nominee has:1) Actively participated in Public Health/Community Nutrition Practice Group activities such as committee service, newsletter contributions, or involvement in association activities at district, state and national levels.; and/or 2)demonstrated active involvement in health-related organizations (professional and voluntary), such as officer and/or committee work within campus, area, state, or national organizations; and/or 3)demonstrated involvement in academic coursework, thesis or intent to practice in public health/community nutrition.

Application Process

The nominator should complete and submit the application by e-mail all documents in one consolidated PDF documentto Alice Lenihan, MPH, RD, LDN at by May 31, 2018. The application document should contain the following:

  1. Nomination Form
  2. Narrative (not to exceed 5 pages) on how the nominee has actively participated in the PHCNPG activities; and/or demonstrated active involvement in health-related organizations; and/or demonstrated involvement in academic coursework related to public health/community nutrition.
  3. A current CV or résumé of the individual being nominated.
  4. Two letters of recommendation (not to exceed 2 pages) from professionals and/or community members who have worked closely with the nominee.
