Prof. Chiara Paolino

COURSE AIMS

‘HR Management in the arts industry’ aims at building people management competences for creative organizations. In particular, the goals of the course are:

–Understanding the main challenges in managing people in cultural organizations and companies;

–Understanding the relevance of governance and managing people within the boards of cultural institutions;

–Understanding how people management could be helpful to solve the paradox between creative and commercial thinking;

–Developing knowledge about how people management practices have been more or less successfully applied in different cultural organizations (including performing and visual art fields);

–Developing abilities in managing complex projects in the arts industry.

COURSE CONTENT

The course will devote space to the discussion of people management leverages (job design, selection, development, career, performance evaluation) for the arts industry and of their implications in different organizational forms (especially project-based ones). Furthermore, people management practices will be discussed in order to understand how their application into the commercial world could be transferred to the cultural one and vice versa. Finally, implications for critical organizational behaviors in creative industries, such as negotiation abilities, will be discussed.
