UNCF Special Programs Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP Program) – Program in which skill-building policy institutes, study abroad, critical languages, and internships lead to graduate study in international affairs. Must be a underrepresented minority sophomore with at least a 3.2 GPA and a strong demonstrated interest in international affairs. Program continues through GraduateSchool.

The Thomas R. Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship –for persons interested in entering the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service. Must be a Sophomore. 3.2 GPA. Includes tuition, room, board, mandatory fees, books, and travel for junior, senior and first year of graduate study.
Disciplines –Academic areas relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy.

INTERNSHIPS
USAID Summer Internships in Africa and Washington, DC– Internships in overseas missions in sub-Saharan Africa as well as Washington, DC. For students pursuing careers in international development. Must be a Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student. Housing, monthly stipend and in-country travel costs provided.
Disciplines –public policy, economics, journalism, agricultural economics, agronomy, public administration, law, management, political science, health, etc.

International Agricultural Internship Program – Provides Int’l agricultural trade experience to Senior and Graduate students. 3.3 GPA needed. Hourly salary at GS-5 – GS-7 grade level.

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme –Program to promote internationalization in Japan’s local communities by helping to improve foreign language education and developing international exchange at the community level. Geared toward students interest in teaching of English in Japan. Paid $33,600 + travel to Japan and back.

SCHOLARSHIPS
National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship–Study abroad outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. $8,000 for Summer, $10,000 for semester, $20,000 for academic year.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship - Offers grants for students of limited financial means (Pell Grant eligible) to pursue academic studies abroad. No summer only programs of study eligible. Awards are up to $5000; an extra $3000 available to students who study a Critical Need Language (Chinese, Korean, Russian, etc.)

Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program –Provides students with a deeper appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs and enhances the knowledge and skills to pursue such careers. Six-week program at HowardUniversity taking 3 courses (History of U.S. Foreign Relations, Political Economy, Writing) for 9 credit hours.

John T. Petters Foundation –Scholarship to increase study abroad opportunities for students with financial constraints. $5,000/semester; $7000/academic year.
