STANDARDIZE TESTING

NOVEMBER 1, 2017

CDR. (NL) J. DEMARY-ELLIOTT

Purpose:To provide Navy League Corps across Ontario Division with a series of Promotional Tests and Level Training Evaluations. Use of these documents will allow the standardization of evaluating Navy League Cadets.

Direction:At the end of each training level, cadets shall complete the examination associated with that level of instruction. The provided tests are intended to be used as a confirmation of the information gained by the cadet. Cadets who fail to gain a 70% pass mark should be coached in the areas where their knowledge was lacking and allowed to rewrite the examination until a passing mark is achieved. This testing serves not only to evaluate the knowledge held by the cadets but also of the effectiveness of the instructors in conveying the lessons. Use the questions as main teaching points when developing your lesson plans. This will ensure your cadets are receiving the necessary information and guarantee all cadets are receiving equivalent training across the Division.

The evaluation sheets that accompany each training level are to be completed by the instructor teaching that cadet in each level or class. The evaluation sheets allow the Training Officer to track what classes the cadet has completed and whether the cadet had difficulty in understanding the material being taught. Each sheet has space for comment by the instructor or training officer. While there is no Promotion Examination above a Petty Officer Second Class, when used properly these evaluations can prove to be an invaluable tool when selecting cadets for the appointed promotions and corps positions while in their Level 5 training period.
