If anyone is free to come and represent USG. LARES and Hillel will partner with us for the voter registration and food drive. Carpet replacement: Jacob wishes to split cost. Political Forum update: we lost it. But we want to host something. Found some restrooms on West Campus for gender neutral bathrooms. Jacob wishes to work and collaborate with GSC. There will be required safe zone training with the department of gender and sexuality.
Vice President’s report: more details on office renovations. Things in the office have changed much and I want to increase professionalism. We have to cut down on printing. No more personal printing. Pop up pantry: we need a room but everything else is ready. Volunteering, we need a volunteer for the first day of the commuter connection day. People should develop an initiative and go through with the work. Brandon remade the membership packet to look more welcoming and easy to use. He is taking his LSAT on Sept 27th. We need new promo items. I want to send members to DC to build leadership skills. I want to emphasize training new members.
Items of Discussion: Brandon wants to contact student orgs in order to bring donations for pop-up pantry. Abhi formerly was working to make an ordinance regarding landlords. Webtools is training people how to use our website. Student center boards require a representative to go to these meetings once a month. Resolution 2014-1F-500
Sending USG members to the ASGA Conference
The Undergraduate Student Government
Legislative Body
Date: September 2, 2014
______
Chief Sponsors:
- Assembly Member Brandon Gaskew
WHEREAS, the national American Student Government conference will be held on October 2 to October 5 in Washington DC.
WHEREAS, the ASGA conference in DC provides: workshops on leadership development, seminars by experienced guest speakers, valuable networking opportunities for members and presentations on how to improve student governments.
WHEREAS, this opportunity to attend the national conference is an investment in the future of USG. As the remaining veteran members are graduating this year, I want to ensure that the future leaders of USG have the tools, resources, and skills to ensure the continuity of this organization.
WHEREAS, the conference fee registration fee is normally $569 per person. As a courtesy of previously hosting we have been offered a two for the price of one deal. Therefore sending the entire executive board and cabinet (8 members) would total $2, 276. Moreover, sending our advisor would cost $569 for the registration fee
WHEREAS, using hotel and airfare costs from sending four students and our advisor to DC last year totaling roughly $1,800. I would estimate that airfare and lodging would cost $3,700 to send the advisor, executive board, and cabinet to DC.
WHEREAS, The USG budget for the year is $105,000. Thus, sending the said USG members on this trip is something we can afford. On the surface the cost of the trip appears large, which it is. However, USG does not plan on spending amounts this large frequently throughout the semester, and other large expenses such as the Springfield Lobby Day have already been budgeted.
LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the assembly approve of sending the USG advisor, executive board, and cabinet to Washington DC for the ASGA conference, and cover airfare, lodging, meals, and conference fee and budget $6,000.00 for the trip.
