GUIDELINES FOR CPE ACCREDITATION

The CPE Secretariat of the Securities Commission is pleased to inform that the CPE Working Committee on February 28, 2002 approved with immediate effect the Guidelines for CPE accreditation.

The guidelines are applicable for licensed representatives who serve in relevant industry-related associations and committees or as speakers of CPE-approved courses. This is in recognition of their service and contribution for the development of the capital market industry.

Guidelines for CPE Accreditation

1.  For licensed representatives who serve in the relevant industry associations and industry committees:

q  The CPE points granted based on the office bearer’s position with the respective industry associations:

q  A maximum of 10 CPE points obtained through involvement with approved industry association or committees be allowed for licence renewal purposes;

q  CPE points granted is based on an annual basis; valid for one licence renewal and cannot be carried over to the following year; and

q  CPE points granted for the term of office must be current to the licence renewal period taking into account of the 18 months initial grace period for Phase 1 implementation.

2.  For speakers of CPE-approved courses, the following guidelines will apply;

q  CPE points awarded will depend on the CPE points granted for approved course the licensed representative is engaged to speak for i.e. if the course is approved for 5 CPE points and similarly for a 10 CPE points course, he/she will gain 10 CPE points.

q  No additional CPE points to be awarded for repeat course.

q  No limit on the number of CPE points obtained as speakers of approved courses. As speakers of CPE-approved course, it is expected that they continuously upgrade their knowledge and enhance their professional competence for the betterment of the industry.

q  CPE points granted is based on an annual basis, valid for one licence renewal and cannot be carried over to the following year; and

q  CPE points granted must be in current to the licence renewal period taking into account of the 18 months initial grace period for Phase 1 implementation.

Procedures for obtaining Accredited CPE Points

1.  For licensed representatives who serve in the relevant industry associations and industry committees, the following procedures will apply;

q  Obtain the letter of confirmation endorsed by the respective heads of industry associations/committees;

q  Submit the application together with the letter of confirmation to the CPE Secretariat; and

q  CPE Secretariat will send CPE dockets to office bearers following verification.

2.  For speakers of CPE-approved courses, the following will apply:

q  Obtain letter of confirmation from the respective CPE training providers on their role as speakers;

q  Submit application together with the letter of confirmation to the CPE Secretariat; and

q  CPE Secretariat will send CPE dockets to the speakers following verification.

9.  Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA)

10.  Financial Planning Associations of Malaysia (FPAM)

The above guidelines and procedures shall be subject to review and amendment by the CPE Working Committee from time to time.
