Job Description

Salary: £28,530 per annum pro rata

Reporting to: Mind in Harrow Grants & Community Fundraising Manager

Hours: 14 hours per week (flexible hours) with some evening and weekend working required

Location: Primarily working at Mind in Harrow’s office in central Harrow

Contract Period: Fixed term two years, continuation subject to review

Aims of the post To increase funds for Mind in Harrow from community fundraising and events by implementing Mind in Harrow’s fundraising strategy.

Background Community fundraising is a vital source of income for Mind in Harrow. Unlike income from contracts and grants which is often restricted to a specific project, community fundraising income can usually be used ‘wherever the need is greatest.’ This flexibility makes it extremely valuable.

Mind in Harrow has seven years experience of implementing a community fundraising strategy and testing the local market. We are now in a position to build upon our learning. And with the recent surge of public interest in mental health and wellbeing, now is the perfect time.

Reporting into the Grants & Community Fundraising Manager, The Community Fundraising Executive will carry out a range of duties as below, always targeting and supporting community fundraisers and donors at a level projected to be commensurate with their return on investment, thus nurturing fundraising relationships and optimising this valuable income stream.

Job Description

1. Increasing Community Fundraising (traditional) Income Stream

·  Research prospective community fundraisers[1]

·  Assist in development of materials for prospects as agreed with Line Manager

·  Produce and disseminate materials to prospects/existing fundraisers

·  Deploy a mix of targeted support (eg presentations/face to face/telephone support/email/social media) to nurture prospects/existing fundraisers to generate the best return on investment

·  Account manage new/existing relationships with community fundraiser/donors to achieve annual income targets

2. Supporting Mind in Harrow Fundraising Events

·  Support the Grants & Community Fundraising Manager to project manage and deliver Mind in Harrow organised fundraising events (currently MasterMind in Harrow annual competition) to achieve annual income targets. Tasks include;

-  Marketing the event

-  Identifying decision-maker in community group or organisation

-  Securing buy-in to event from decision-maker

-  Preparing and disseminating tailored mailings

-  Administering event including leading on health and safety, insurance and other event regulations

-  Ensuring smooth administration of event on day

-  Nurturing fundraising relationships

-  Producing event income analysis

3. Increasing Community fundraising (online) Income Stream

In collaboration with appropriate Mind in Harrow personnel;

·  Benchmark and review existing Mind in Harrow website/online/social media fundraising platforms (eg Just Giving/Skyline)

·  Recommend developments to improve existing website/online navigability and increase fundraising traffic/enquiry/conversion rates

·  Recommend and test new online fundraising methods (eg identifying and developing third party challenge events/a pool of online voters et al) and maintaining up to date links/info on website social media as agreed with Line Manager to create new income streams

·  Implement and maintain new fundraising methods agreed

·  Deploy an appropriate mix of targeted support to online fundraisers/individual donors at a level commensurate with their projected return on investment

·  Account manage new/existing relationships with community fundraiser/donors to achieve annual income targets

4. Fundraising & Communications (general)

In collaboration with appropriate Mind in Harrow personnel;

·  Respond to fundraising enquiries, assist/support community fundraisers & donors

in a professional and timely manner commensurate with return on investment

·  Raise awareness of Mind in Harrow by visiting/giving presentations to prospective corporate & community donors/fundraisers & staff stalls at events

·  Assist in promotion, support and fundraising for Mind in Harrow shop

·  Update and edit fundraising web and social media content, writing copy for web including blog posts and newsletters

·  Operate within agreed fundraising budget

·  Ensure fundraising activities meet organisational values and standards and comply with relevant regulatory frameworks (eg fundraising standards, adult safeguarding & data protection)

·  Keep accurate records of fundraising activities and money raised

·  Produce regular reports to monitor traditional, online and all fundraising activities

·  Assist in the development of an effective donor database

5.  General

·  Work at all times to promote Mind in Harrow’s Equality & Diversity Policy and Service User Involvement Policy.

·  Maintain all records in compliance with Data Protection and Mind in Harrow’s Confidentiality Policy.

·  Promote the work of Mind in Harrow and positive understanding, awareness and attitudes towards mental health.

·  Work in accordance with Mind in Harrow’s Codes of practice and maintain good relationships internally and externally.

·  Assist with some Mind in Harrow joint project events and activities.

·  Contribute to Mind in Harrow’s external communications including website content, Twitter and Facebook.

·  Work flexibly, being prepared to perform other duties commensurate with the role, which may include new areas of operation following consultation.

·  Undertake any other duties identified which are generally compatible with the function of the post.

Community Fundraising Executive - Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Education / Degree calibre / A recognised fundraising qualification
Knowledge
And
experience / Track record of successful community fundraising and/or events fundraising in the charity sector
Experience of motivating and supporting community fundraisers through the written word (eg letter/email) to secure/uplift income received
Experience of motivating and supporting community fundraisers through the spoken word (face to face and meetings & presentations) to secure/uplift income received
Experience of using social media platforms (eg website/facebook/twitter/ JustGiving/challenge events) to create successful fundraising opportunities/campaigns
Experience of supporting community fundraisers through social media platforms
Understanding the key principles in Equalities and Diversity and supporting vulnerable community fundraisers/donors / Of motivating/developing relationships with community fundraisers at a level commensurate with their projected return on investment
Of applying fundraising regulations & good practice
Of using fundraising databases
Of working with Asian/Muslim communities
Mental health awareness and Mind’s philosophy of service user empowerment
Skills and abilities / Proven professional and personable verbal communication skills

Conditions of employment

Mind in Harrow has a legal responsibility to check that its employees have the right to work in the UK. Appointment The appointment is subject to a probationary period of six months Fixed term two years, continuation subject to review

Salary (including Outer London Weighting)

£28,530 per annum pro rata £11,412 for 14 hour week (£951 per month)

Hours of work

The normal hours of work are between 9.00 am to 5.00pm Monday – Friday. Some evening/weekend working will be required for which time off in lieu is given.

26 days pro rata increasing by 1 day per completed year of service, plus public holidays.

Mind in Harrow operates an Occupational Pension Scheme with the Pensions Trust and makes employer contributions at 4% of gross salary.

Individual training budget

Mind in Harrow offers each member of staff an individual training budget which is equivalent to 4% of gross pay.
