Office of the Solicitor General Student Advocacy Center Application

The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) serves as a liaison to the student body, as well as the administration, while advocating for continued equity and representation for the undergraduate student population. The office aims to empower the campus community through commitment, service, and leadership by providing information on university and student government policies.
As a part of the Student Government Association (SGA), the role of the OSG is to maintain extensive knowledge on student government policies and regulations in order to better represent the students/student organizations through the student government processes. It is the duty of the office to maintain that the student government provide adequate, fair, and equal representation to all students.
In addition to these duties, the Office of the Solicitor General maintains the Student Advocacy Center (SAC). The SAC provides free and confidential consultations to students seeking information or help on university and SGA policies. We will advise students on matters such as student government appeals, university policy violation appeals, University Code of Student Conduct, university academic policies, and housing and residence life policies. The inquires that students submit to the SAC will be reviewed by the SAC Advocates, whom will research the policy in question, communicate with the necessary university and/or student government on behalf of the students, then reply to the student with information and possible steps in moving forward. The SAC is dedicated to providing in depth information on student rights as well as policies that affect students on a daily basis so that we are able to better assist the Towson Community.
The Student Government Association and the Office of the Solicitor General are looking for four (4) students to serve as Student Advocates within the Student Advocacy Center. If you are interested in applying please answer the following questions and submit the application by Monday, September 26, 2016 at 5 PM.

As a Student Advocate you will be expected to:

  • Be a full-time, fee paying, undergraduate student in good academic standing, with a minimum GPA of 2.5;
  • Be available for SAC meetings with the Solicitor General and Deputy Solicitor General on Fridays at 1PM-2PM;
  • Sign the Office of Solicitor General Confidentiality Agreement;
  • Research university-wide policies as well as student government policies while maintaining extensive knowledge on the Code of Student Conduct;
  • Work to resolve student concerns that are sent to the Office of the Solicitor General;
  • Assist the Solicitor General in creating initiatives that are dedicated to student advocacy, social justice, and equal opportunity.
