SOFTBALL- DIVISIONS DESCRIPTIONS

TEE BALL (CO-ED 4-6)

This is the entry-level division for boys baseball and girls softball. The goal is to introduce the players to the fundamental skills associated with the game in a non-competitive environment. Focus of the division is to teach players properly hitting, throwing, catching and base running techniques. The ball used is a soft strike baseball that is hit from a stationary tee.

AA MINORS SOFTBALL (Girls 6-8)

This is the first division of girls softball following Tee Ball. It is a combination of coach pitch and kid pitch. The ball used is a smaller 11 inch hard softball. Focus areas of this division are hitting a pitched ball, learning to pitch, catching, throwing and base running.

AAA SOFTBALL (Girls 9-10)

This is the division that follows AA Minors. It is the first girls softball division that incorporates 100% kid pitch, and all of the standard softball rules. At this level, players use the same smaller 11 inch softball. Focus areas continue to be pitching, catching, hitting, throwing and base running. However, game situational decision making is introduced for a higher level of play.

MAJORS SOFTBALL (Girls 11-12)

Majors Softball is the division that follows AAA Minors. This is the first level of softball where the regulation size 12 in softball is introduced. The pitching distance is also increased to 40 ft. All normal regulation softball rules are in effect. Fundamental softball skills and situational decision-making are continuing to be developed at this level.

JUNIORS SOFTBALL (Girls 13-14)

The Juniors Division is intended to allow batters and pitchers to adjust to the longest pitching distance offered by the sport. All other facets of the game are the same, but situational play decision making and softball skills are expected to be at a higher level. This division is intended to prepare players for play at the High School level.

SENIORS SOFTBALL (Girls 15-18)

This is the softball division that follows Juniors. At this level, the players have adjusted to the regulation pitching distance introduced at Juniors. This is the division of play at the High School level.
