Work Experience:

1983-presentLecturer at ColoradoSchool of Mines, Division of Engineering. Responsibilities have included teaching Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Civil Engineering Field Session (land surveying), Surveying II, Construction Site Management (no longer offered), Design of Steel Structures, Reinforced Concrete Design, Senior Design, and the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) review course for Mechanics of Materials. Additional responsibilities include the coordination of multiple sections of Mechanics of Materials with other professors, the advising of undergraduate students enrolled in Civil Engineering specialty in the Division of Engineering, service on institutional and departmental committees, review of transfer credit for Mechanics of Materials, Surveying, Steel Design, Land Surveying and Reinforced Concrete Design.

June-Aug.Taught the new AISC Unified Steel Design Code to the structural engineers at

2007Martin/Martin in Lakewood, CO. This seminar consisted of a weekly 2-hour lecture, delivered using Power Point, and the development of homework assignments and example problems. All seminar information was published for Martin/Martin employees using the company intranet. Approximately 40-60 professional design engineers attended this 8-week seminar.

1995-present

  • Technical advisor to various publishers of Statics and Mechanics of Materials textbooks.
  • Consulting engineering projects with companies such as Air Methods, Inc., Etkin Construction, Co., Rocky Mountain Lift Association, CDM Engineers and Constructors, AC Mechanical Engineering, Inc., and Stanek Constructors, Inc. These projects involved engineering design and land surveying expertise.

1981 - 1983Project Engineer in the Facilities Development Division at Exxon Co., U.S.A., Benicia, California Refinery. Project management included field construction of two multi-million dollar projects at the refinery. Job responsibilities included review of structural and mechanical design, project cost estimating, writing mechanical equipment and construction bid specifications, procurement of equipment, bid evaluation, and cost projections/financial tracking of the project.

Academic Service:

1994-presentServing as the faculty advisor for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Associated General Contractors (AGC)

  • Hosted the 2000 ASCE/MBT 13th Annual National Concrete Canoe Competition; ASCE/MBT stated that “this was the best competition ever hosted by a university!”
  • Hosted the 2004 AISCNationalStudentSteelBridge Competition in May
  • Hosted the ASCE Rocky Mtn. Student Conference – April 1999 and April 2008
