Obstetrician's Office Visit

I.Objectives

A.To provide an opportunity for the nursing student to become familiar with the facilities and services provided by one obstetrician in this area.

B.To provide an opportunity for the student to correlate learned classroom theory with observed experience in the obstetrician's office.

C.To observe the role of the nurse in an outpatient setting caring for maternity and gynecological patients and to participate in assessment and non-invasive nursing skills as appropriate.

II.Guidelines

A.Selected students will be assigned to an obstetrician for this clinical experience. A sheet with more specific instructions on each of the obstetricians is located on the Course Calendar by a link on the first day of classes entitled, “Obstetrician’s Office Directives”. This link will have the address, phone number, and time for you to arrive at the particular agency to who you are assigned.

B.On the next link in the syllabus is a list of clinical experiences which correlate with
classroom theory primarily in maternity and women’s health. It is hoped that the
student will be able to observe and participate in as many of these assessment
parameters and interventions as possible and appropriate during this experience.

PLEASE MARK WITH A CHECK MARK () EACH EXPERIENCE OBSERVED, OR IN WHICH YOU PARTICIPATED.

C.Return the "List of Clinical Experiences" to your instructor with your clinical folder. Discuss and evaluate your office experience in the Community Rotation Log answering the questions listed in the Community Experience Guidelines in your syllabus.

D.Please have your preceptor sign your “List” at the end of the clinical to verify
your attendance at this clinical experience. They will call if you do not show up.

E.If you, the student, are unable to attend any of these clinicals on the assigned days, it is your responsibility to notify the doctor's office and your clinical instructor. This is considered a clinical absence.
