Raleigh Aquarium Society
BAP Specialty Program
The Raleigh Aquarium Society is proud to announce the initiation of the BAP Specialty Program. This development grew from the increasing membership participation in the basic Breeder Award Program.
The BAP Specialty Program will:
- recognize members who have achieved expertise in breeding selected categories of fishes
- encourage the maintenance of populations of different types of fish making them available to members and the hobby in general
- encourage members to learn about and to try breeding various categories of fishes
In the specialty program no additional points are awarded, however the same requirements necessary to gain credit for fish in the basic program apply, such as having the fish checked by the BAP chairman and putting the fish in the auction, or doing an article or presentation. The current basic BAP program form will be accepted for the first spawn of a species, but a separate BAP Specialty Form must be completed for each subsequent spawn of a species.
Each entry in the specialty program must be from a distinctly separate spawn (not multiple groups from the same spawn). For killifish and other continuous spawners, the eggs laid or fry expelled in a ten day period will be considered one distinct spawn. If a species of fish qualifies in more than one category, the member will select the category in which to record the spawn. Subsequent spawns may be recorded in other appropriate categories. A spawn already recorded in the basic program will count as the first spawn in the specialty program. No more than three spawns per species may be accepted. Awards will be given to each participant as they achieve certification in each category.
