20th May 2016
Dear Parents,
Deputy Head
Many congratulations go to Mr Elms who will be the Head Teacher of Stonegate School from September. He will be greatly missed here at Catsfield and I am sure you will join me in wishing him every happiness for the future. He has contributed enormously to the success of this school and I am sure he will do the same at Stonegate.
We are delighted to let you know that Mrs Fernandes has been successful in her application to take over the role and will become our new Deputy Head in September.
We know that many of you will be keen to know our staffing structure for September and assure you that as soon as we have made firm arrangements we will be letting you know.
Well done to Year 6 for surviving SATS week! The children demonstrated a very mature attitude to their tests and conducted themselves beautifully. We are extremely proud of them all.
Farm to Fork Week
We are looking forward to an exciting week ahead for our Whole School Learning Journey. Please make sure your children have a coat and wellies here for the week. We are very grateful to the PTA for donating £1,000 towards the Plumpton trip on Tuesday. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated and supportive team of parents whose hard work enables us to enhance the curriculum in so many ways.
KS2 Swimming This commences on Tuesday 7th June for Panthers and Leopards. Please see attached letter and return the permission slip by Thursday 26th May.
Bikeability This is for Year 6 only and will commence on Monday 20th June. Half term might be a good opportunity to check out your bikes to make sure they are in good working order. If you do not have a bike, ESCC have a few they are able to lend out. A letter will be going home after half term with full details.
Flute lessons A reminder that the East Sussex Music Service has offered a Flute teacher to come to Catsfield to give lessons to children in Years 3 to 6. If you would like more information, please visit It would be fantastic if some of our pupils were to take this up. Learning an instrument is a very rewarding experience and is known to boost self-esteem as well as providing many other benefits to children.
Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations We will be holding a “Street Party” on the afternoon of 9th June as a forerunner to the weekend’s celebrations. The theme will be “red, white and blue” and children are welcome to come to school dressed in these colours. Please provide your child with a small contribution of sandwiches, cake or fruit to share. We will also be singing a selection of patriotic songs which the children have been learning.
St Laurence Church Family Service Sunday 26th June Once a year our children lead the Family Service at church and this year we will be celebrating British Values and showcasing our work on Farm to Fork. The service will be from 10am to 10.30am. We would love as many children as possible to join us. More details will follow nearer the time.
Sports Day and cricket match Friday 10th June Parents are invited to join us at Catsfield Playing Field from 1.30pm. Please pick your children up from this location at the usual time. There will be refreshments and a barbecue run by the PTA during the afternoon. All families are welcome to stay on after school time for a picnic and the annual Village v School cricket match.
Outside planters Very many thanks go to Terry White and his students at Sussex Coast College for making a set of very attractive planters for the garden. We would also like to thank Janet and Jim Williams who give up their time each Wednesday to help in our garden. B & Q Bexhill have kindly agreed to donate the plants, so a huge thank you to them as well.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs S Clark
