Dan Cordova is new Colorado Supreme Court librarian

Former federal court librarian joins state

Dan Cordova, former reference librarian for the Denver-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, is the new Colorado Supreme Court librarian. He replaces Martha Campbell, who is retiring after 32 years.

“With his dual degrees in law and library science and the fine reputation he has earned for his work in the federal court, we expect Dan Cordova to serve the public well as the Colorado Supreme Court librarian,” says Colorado Chief Justice Mary Mullarkey. “He will be a real asset to the Colorado Judicial Branch.”

Cordova has a law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law and a master’s degree from the University of Arizona School of Information Resources and Library Sciences.

The Colorado Supreme Court Library has its roots in the Territorial Library founded in 1861. It was formally established in 1974 by the Colorado General Assembly to serve the Colorado Supreme Court. Today it also provides legal materials and reference assistance to the public, the Colorado Court of Appeals, the state’s district and county trial courts and numerous state agencies. The library is open to the public from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. To contact the library, call 303-837-3720 or access its website at www.state.co.us/courts/sctlib/.

The library’s collection includes the laws of all 50 states, federal laws and regulations and reports of legal rulings nationwide. Some highlights of the collection include Colorado statutes and cases dating back to the territorial period of the state’s history, the laws of numerous Colorado municipalities and Colorado legal treatises and directories. The library has been a partial federal depository since 1978, focusing on such materials as federal administrative agency decisions, presidential documents and materials made available by such federal agencies as the U.S. Department of Justice, the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Census Bureau.
