Entering Observation Writing Assessment Scores into PowerTeacher

  1. Log into your PowerTeacher Gradebook
  2. Check to be sure you are in the appropriate school year, reporting term and have clicked on the “Scoresheet” tab
  3. Click on your “Writing Class”
  4. Click the “+” next to “Q _ In Progress” to create the assignment; a “new assignment” box will appear
  5. Click on the “assignment” tab, complete the “new assignment” form (using the information below) and click “save” at the bottom of the screen

Name: Q1 Observational Assessment

Abbreviation: (this will auto fill for you)

Category: District Assessment (If you have not already created this category in your gradebook, you will need to do that now.)

Score Type: points

Points Possible: 100

Extra Points: 0

Weight: 1.00

Due Date: (refer to CSDNB assessment calendar for appropriate date)

Include in Final Grade: leave unchecked

Description: Teacher completes the observational assessment as students demonstrate their ability level for each learning target on the assessment. This is completed during Writer's Workshop throughout the quarter.

  1. Click on “standards” tab
  2. Scroll through and check off the appropriate standards indicated for each learning target/descriptor of successful writing on the observational assessment. There may be more than one standard per learning target/descriptor, this is ok
  3. Click on the “save” button
  4. Click on the “x” in the top left of the assignment tab, your student roster will appear
  5. Look for the Q _ Observational Assessment test tab in black
  6. Click on the small gray box with an “S” on it
  7. Enter the assessment scores in each blue “CC Standard” column. The score should reflect the student’s overall performance meeting this standard throughout the quarter. In some cases a single standard is attached to multiple targets/descriptors on the assessment, using your professional judgment, enter the overall score for that standard
  8. Enter scores in each “CC Standard” column
  9. The gray box with the “S” in it will turn green when all of the scores are filled
  10. Click “save” at the bottom of the screen
  11. The scores that have just been entered into your Gradebook will be converted to the grading key for the standard descriptors on the report card
