Individual Placement Description

Placement / F2 Paediatrics
The department / Paediatric Department is part of Child Health Directorate at Pennine Acute Trust. This is a busy department that provides comprehensive medical care to children ranging from 0-16 including Neonatal Intensive care currently at Level 2.
The type of work to expect and learning opportunities / Trainees are well supported by 2 tiers & up to 3 in Neonates (ANNPS). They are given enough opportunities in problem solving without stress by way of close Supervision. Guidelines for common problems in place with guidance as & when necessary.
Regular hand over meetings at each shift improving communication between team members. Given chances during wards to communicate to patients and carers under Consultant supervision.
Closely knit unit. Trainees are encouraged to take active part in decision making as a team & also to work with other staff within the department & within the Trust.
Regular protected teaching
Opportunistic training in Grand Rounds ward rounds & during handover.
Teaching Fourth year medical students in the ward. For e.g in clerking
Able to attend emergencies along with senior support.
Provide basic life support to neonates
Recognition of critically ill child.
Twice a week grand rounds
Twice a week departmental training
Release for foundation training programme.
Bedside opportunistic teaching.
Basic procedures in Paediatrics.
Participation in Audit.

Where the placement is based / Paediatrics, Oldham
Clinical Supervisor(s) for the placement / Dr Mir/Dr Padmakumar/Dr Prakash
Main duties of the placement / The trainee will be well supported in a 1 in 7 EWTD compliant Rota. During day time, there is Consultant of Week System & hence there will be 2 tiers of medical support. During on calls, there will be middle grade support on Site as well as Consultant on call support as necessary. There will be ample opportunities to gain experience.
