STATIONS OF THE CROSS

In the chapel, the Stations of the Cross can be found on three of the walls. Have a close look at them, then try the following questions.

1.  If I = 1, V = 5 and X = 10, work out how many Stations of the Cross there are.

(If there is a letter on the left hand side of V or X then you take it away from V(5) or X(10), e.g. IV = 4, IX = 9. BUT if there is a letter on the right hand side, then you add it on, e.g. VII = 7, XIII = 13.

2.  Can you match the number of the Station to the description of the picture?

a.  Jesus is stripped of his clothes by two men, with a guard standing watching. Number __

b.  Jesus is taken down from the cross and laid across his mother’s lap. Mary and John look on from behind. Number __

c.  Jesus is sentenced to death. Pilate washes his hands of the decision as Jesus is tied up and led away. Number __

d.  As he carries his cross to the place of execution, Jesus meets his mother, Mary. Number __
