Note to tutor: Please read each question aloud with student and have him/her fill in the answers in the appropriate areas. Some multiple choice answers will have to be read to the student before he/she can circle the correct answer.

06.The mouse is the object you put your hand on to the right of your keyboard. Please put your hand on the mouse. Move it around as you watch the monitor. You are controlling the pointer on the monitor also known as a cursor. Please circle the correct shape of the cursor as you see it on the monitor:
07.Point at the START button on the bottom left of the monitor with your cursor. Using your index finger, click one time on the left mouse button while you are pointing at START. Find the red button on the bottom right of the panel you just opened that says TURN OFF COMPUTER. Point your cursor at that button and left-click once. Another panel or ‘window’ will open. Left-click on the red button to turn off the computer. Wait 20 seconds after the computer turns the monitor off and the computer is quiet. That will allow the fan in the computer tower to stop turning completely. Find the power button on the front of the computer tower. Press the power button to turn the computer back on. 08.Look at the monitor. The open area with the small pictures is called the desktop. The small pictures on the desktop with words underneath are called icons. How many icons do you count on the monitor? (tutor – the number answer will be different depending on computer student is using)

10.On the bottom of the monitor screen is a small rectangle that says PAINT and has a tiny icon or picture of some paint brushes. Please left-click on that with your mouse. That will bring up the Paint program. How many tiny colored blocks are on the bottom left of the Paint program? (tutor, this number may vary)
11.Your cursor or pointer now looks like a pencil. Please left-click and hold down the button while you drag the mouse around in the white area on the monitor. You are now drawing black lines that could be printed. When you let your clicking finger go you stop drawing. Please go to the tiny colored block area at the bottom left and left-click on the red block. Take your mouse/cursor back to the white area, left-click and hold down the button and draw. Now your pencil is drawing in red. Please circle one: What happens when you let go of the mouse button while you are drawing?

12.Go to the tool bar on the left side of the Paint program. There are two columns of pictures or icons. Left-click on the one that looks like a paintbrush. Using your mouse, go back with your cursor to the white area. Left-click and hold down the mouse button while you draw a thicker red line. With your mouse go to the colored blocks on the bottom and pick another color by left-clicking on it. With your mouse go back to the white area and paint in the same way with the new color. 14.Look at the 3 buttons at the very top right of the monitor screen. From left to right, there is a dash, a square and a red X. Use your mouse and left-click on the button with the dash. That button is called ‘minimize’. That takes the program off the monitor screen/desktop without turning the Paint program off. Now look at the little rectangle on the bottom that says Paint. Left-click on that box. That brings Paint back to the front of the monitor. Now left-click on the red X button on the top right. That button is called ‘close’. A small window will open that says “save changes?”. Left-click on NO. Please circle one: What happened to the Paint program after you left-clicked on the red X button?
