(Student will…) / Explore the concept of change. Identify a personal change brought about by a specific incident.
Teacher Activities / SB Activity 1.1 & 1.2 (page 6)—Activate prior knowledge by having students individually complete the graphic organizer to consider the concept of change. After students pair up, have them share their lists of changes with partners. Ask students to share a few examples with the class and record the responses for each question. Brainstorm words, phrases, and images for question 5 and have students share list. Create cover page to use in binder. Ask students to review their lists of changes and star any that may have been caused by a specific incident. Ask them to choose one of the starred items and in their writing composition book free write about the incident.

Teacher Activities / SB Activity 1.3 – Have students brainstorm words that are related to or are synonyms for change, choose a word retlated to change and model the word map or graphic organizer on page 7; have students work with a partner to complete the word map on page 7 with another word for change. Introduce the Vocabulary notebook and have students place the completed word map in their vocabulary notebooks.
