POSITION PROFILE
Position: National Coordinator, SJA Connect (youth program)
Reports to: Director of Community Services, National Office
Location: National Office, Ottawa, ON
Status:Full-time–1-year Contract(with potential for permanent position)
Summary:
SJA Connect is a program designed to engage and enable young Canadians aged 14-19 years of age, to improve their health, safety, confidence and competence. SJA Connect has the potential to introduce a large segment of Canadian youth to a broad range of skills and leadership development opportunities, which will provide them with job market competencies, enhance their volunteer experiences and build stronger communities. Pilot rollouts have proven that curriculum materials are well crafted, with content and structure appropriate to the topics and the target youth population. The diverse and flexible delivery methodologies employed have been well received and youth participant interest and engagement has been achieved and maintained throughout the pilots.
As theNational Coordinator,SJA Connectyou will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the strategy among Councils. Using recently developed program content and administrationprocesses you will engage with paid staff and volunteers among Councils and appropriate national community partners, to rollout SJA Connect. In the medium term, you will lead the continuous development and evolution of curriculum and content for SJA Connect to ensure it remains relevant to the target cohort of Canadian youth and garners their continued participation.
Responsibilities:
- Engage with St. John Ambulance (Provincial) Council Community Services and youth program staff to implement SJA Connect, ensuring that participation targets are met.
- Identify appropriate national community program partners, where applicable, based on the program content developed.
- In conjunction with the Director, Community Services, National Office, engage and solicit the leadership of national, community-program partner organizations; and support their participation in the delivery of SJA Connect within their youth programs. These partners may include the board and volunteer leadership of the Johanniter Order; St. John Canada Foundation board members and donors;provincial/territorial Ministries of Education, key stakeholders in other Canadian youth organizations;federal government staff and Parliamentarians.
- Evolve and adapt the SJA Connect topics, content and delivery methods, to continually meet the needs of today’s youth and remain relevant to them.
- Undertake further program research as required.
- Ensure the program design and content is applicable to a wide rangeof learners, incorporates best practices and relevant research findings, and avoids duplication of existing programs or school curriculum.
- Ensure that intellectual property (IP) permissions are obtained and maintained from the IP owner/holders for any externally sourced content or links.
- Update and further develop the program guides (facilitator/mentor, administration, participant)as necessary, including translation, in keeping with the evolution of SJA Connect content, curriculum and delivery methods
- Update, further develop and use program evaluation tools.
- Administer and manage content on the SJA Connect website.
- Prepare production ready program materials for all selected delivery methods.
- Develop marketing collateral, national grants and sponsorship submissions, and programadministration documents to ensure information accurately reflects the programgoals and content.
- Prepare reports as required to meet internal needs and the needs of organizations that provide funding via grants and donations.
- Assist with development of user requirements for information technologysystems, design forms, and consult with information system staff on developmentand implementation.
- Coordinate and assist with development of training packages for staff andmanagement working with the program, procedures and policies.
- Participate in orientation briefings and sessions with SJA Council/Branch/Unit personnel and support as necessary the implementation of the youth project across Canada; either in-person or via electronic means.
- Perform other related work as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Enthusiasm and a passion for community and youth development.
- A degree in Education with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in educational program development, research, curriculum effectiveness and student performance.
- Considerable experience in training and development of youth, as well as a strongnetwork with educational institutions and youth organizations.
- Experience in coordinating external program providers.
- Ability to be flexible and thrive in a high-stress and very creative environment withfrequent and competing deadlines, multiple tasks and high performance expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems with minimal supervision and to workeffectively individually and maintain positive collaborative working relationships.
- Excellent work-planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral communication and presentation skills, with the ability to establisheffective partnerships with other staff, community groups, agencies, corporations andbusinesses in relation to youth leadership programs and their promotionalrequirements.
- Superb writing and web—based skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex messages succinctly, clearly and in a manner that is understandable and engaging to a wide range of individuals.
- Competence with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite applications
- Fluency (oral interaction/writing/reading) in the French language is a definite asset.
Working Conditions:
- In order to effectively accomplish the goals of the position, from time to time overtime and schedule flexibility may be required.
- Some travel within Canada may be required.
