A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND PRINCIPAL SUE RICKMAN OF SIX MILE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR HER EFFORTS TO ENCOURAGE HER STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE JUMP ROPE FOR HEART PROGRAM AND TO PROCLAIM HER THE JELLO QUEEN OF PICKENS COUNTY.

Whereas, Principal Sue Rickman of Six Mile Elementary School of Pickens County, in an effort to encourage her students to participate in the annual Jump Rope For Heart program, agreed to slide into a thirtyeight gallon tub filled by her students with red and green JellO; and

Whereas, Jump Rope For Heart is an educational fundraising event held each year in thousands of elementary schools across the nation by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and the program has raised more than $327 million for cardiovascular research and education programs; and

Whereas, the students who participate in Jump Rope For Heart not only help raise funds for medical research and programs that work to prevent heart disease and stroke, but also learn about the benefits of physical activity, how to keep their hearts healthy, and how they can help save lives in their own community; and

Whereas, on Friday, March 9, 2001, fifteen of the twentytwo classes at Six Mile Elementary School achieved one hundred percent participation in the Jump Rope For Heart program; students in grades one through five jumped rope, played tugofwar, dared to “jump the creek”, danced the limbo, and participated in several other games to promote health habits; and

Whereas, Principal Sue Rickman, in the spirit of being a good sport and remaining true to her word, honored her students for their remarkably high level of participation in the school’s Jump Rope For Heart program by sliding into a tub of red and green JellO, bringing smiles and laughter to all and demonstrating the lengths to which Principal Rickman will go to encourage her students to engage in healthy physical activity. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend Principal Sue Rickman of Six Mile Elementary School for her efforts to encourage her students to participate in the Jump Rope For Heart program and to proclaim her the JellO Queen of Pickens County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Rickman.
