Greetings from Your Admin Team

Christ is coming! Advent is marked by a spirit of celebration, reconciliation, deepened prayer and of service as we prepare for the coming of Jesus. It also reminds us that we are called to be a light to the world and that the Son of God will support us during each step we take on life’s journey.

Throughout the Advent season the students of St. Edward are participating in a variety of activities, service projects, field trips, choir performances and liturgies to prepare our hearts for Christmas. We are looking forward to our Advent Celebration – “An Under the Sea Nativity Story” on Tuesday, December 19th. Please note the change of venue, as we will be holding our celebration at the E.D. Feehan High School theatre. At 9:00 am on the 19th, all students and staff (except Pre-K and Kindergarten students) will be walking over to the high school for a practice. There will be a silver collection that evening, which will support the legal fees associated with the important Theodore Court Case appeal. It is important to also note that our wonderful CSCC committee will be once again organizing a bake sale for that evening; it will be held in the EDF cafeteria prior to our concert. Families are asked to bring their baking donation to St. Edward on the 19th. The evening will be a great opportunity for our school community to gather and celebrate the birth of Christ.

In addition to all the great initiatives that are taking place at St. Edward, we have received corporate donations to fund a school-wide Christmas lunch on Wednesday, December 20th. As a school community, we will share a meal together in the gym. This event is free of charge for all our students.

Students across our school division will be dismissed early for holiday season at 2:10 pm on Friday, December 22nd, 2017. Shortly we find ourselves approaching the end of 2017! How quickly the time has passed since the opening days of the school year. On behalf of our staff, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and wish all of our families a most blessed, joyful and peace-filled Christmas season.

CSCC NEWS

Our CSCC would like to thank everyone who attended our Turkey Family Bingo Night in November; it was a great success and fun was had by all. We are also organizing our annual bake sale prior to the Advent Celebration on December 19th at E.D. Feehan High School. Please feel free to drop off your baking donation at St. Edward School during the day or at E.D. Feehan prior to the concert. Our next meeting will be on Monday, January 15th at 6:00 in the staffroom. Free childcare will be provided.

ADVENT CELEBRATIONS

Thank you to Ms. Boschman, Miss Molnar and Mrs. Cenaiko and their students for presenting us with inspirational, prayer-filled Advent Celebrations this season. Your performances were appreciated and treasured.

VOLLEYBALL SEASON

Our girls’ and boys’ volleyball season came to an end on November 30th. We would like to thank our students for their effort in developing their skills and displaying sportsmanship as they represented themselves and St. Edward very well. A special thank-you goes out to our coaches, Mrs. Sparks, Ms. Boschman, Mr. Schumaker, Mrs. Lemire and Mr. LeBlanc for their time, guidance and leadership this season.

Support SCSBA’s Schools You Can Believe In fundraising campaign

Help ensure Catholic education is available to all who choose it, no matter the reason, for future generations. Donate to support the legal appeal of the Theodore court-case ruling and keep resources in our classrooms. A permanent reversal through the appeals process (which will likely go to the Supreme Court of Canada) is needed to maintain funding for all who choose Catholic faith-based education. Find out how to donate (including online options) at https://foundation.gscs.ca.

We Said a Prayer for You…

because the season’s near.

We didn’t ask for riches

but for gifts so much more dear.

We asked for joyful gatherings

with your family all around,

and for carols to inspire you

with their old familiar sounds.

We asked for quiet moments

in your heart on Christmas morn,

for a special time to celebrate

the Savior who was born.

We asked for friends to send their best

that you might know they care.

We asked for peace and love and hope,

and we know God heard our prayer.

Wishing you a blessed, Merry Christmas

From all the staff at St. Edward School
