An Advanced Placement “How To” Guide
1. Attend AP Forum/Registration Presentation. Find out what you are in for! This presentation will provide information from counselors, teachers, and students.
2. Check the entrance requirements for the course. Requirements vary slightly with the course. However, they ALL consider the following
· Minimum GPA
· PSAT scores
· Grades in specific pre-requisite courses
· Your work ethic including motivation, cooperation, and homework record
· Attendance(absences and tardiness)
3. Meet required pre-requisites and take entrance screening tests if applicable:
· English 2 Honors: All freshmen will take the test in class on Monday, Feb. 11. Students absent who need to make-up the test need to see Mrs. Herschbach immediately upon returning to school
· AP English Language: Honors English II class will take the test in class on Monday, Feb 11. Other sophomores or those that are absent need to plan to take the test after school (3:05) on Thursday, February 14 with Mrs. Patterson in E2
· AP English Literature: Current AP English Language students going into AP literature in senior year will take the test on Monday, February 11 in class. Current regular juniors or honors wishing to enroll in AP literature in senior year: Thursday, February 14 after school (3:00) in E-3
· AP World History: Placement test after school (3:05) on Tuesday, February 26 with Mrs. Hals Room 218
· AP US History: Placement test after school (3:05) on Tuesday, February 26 with Mr, Koos Room 217
· AP Psychology: See Mr. Forrester in Room B2 before March 1 for recommendation.
· AP Government and Politics: See Mr. Kelly in Room N213 before March 1 for recommendation
· AP Biology: Must have Biology and Chemistry. See Mrs. Lierman in Room N107 before March 1 for recommendation
· AP Chemistry: Must have Biology, Chemistry, Algebra II. See Mrs. Zinone in Room N208 before March 1 for recommendation
· AP Environmental Science: Placement test afterschool (3:05) on Friday, February 15 with Mrs. Head in Room N207
· AP Physics: Placement test afterschool (3:05) on Wednesday, February 13 with Ms. Scott Room 117
· AP Calculus AB: Placement test afterschool (3:05) on Wednesday, March 6 with Mr. Ziarno Room N113
· AP Statistics: Placement test afterschool (3:05) on Tuesday, February 12 in Mrs. Thomason Room N116
· AP Calculus BC: Must have Calculus AB. See Mr. Ziarno in Room N113 before March 1 for recommendation.
· FIT Courses: Application due in April to Guidance.
· AP Foreign Language: Must have at LEAST THREE YEARS of the foreign language. See your foreign language teacher.
· Any AP Course not listed: See your Guidance Counselor
4. Be conscientious about taking your entrance test (if applicable) and completing other requirements ON TIME. Note: If you are unable to sit for a scheduled test it is your responsibility to make alternate arrangements BEFORE the date of the test. If you are required to see a teacher for recommendation, you MUST see the teacher to be included in evaluations for class enrollment.
5. Check with teacher listed above for approved list (approx. March 15).
