Mennonite College of Nursing Student Health and Safety Compliance Contract

As a student at Mennonite College of Nursing, you will be expected to comply with immunization and other health and safety compliance requirements at various points in your plan of study. These requirements are dictated by the clinical agencies that service our students and are non-negotiable as they impact contracts with our college’s clinical agencies. Note that health and safety standards that may be required of you in an employment position at a healthcare institution may be different from those required of you as a student at MCN because the college upholds the compilation of the most stringent requirements imposed of all agencies.

As a student, it is very important for you to manage your health and safety deadlines and to take proactive steps to ensure compliance. Deadlines are imposed by the agencies that service our students, and after health and safety information is submitted to the college, applicable information is then forwarded to the clinical agencies. Not meeting established compliance deadlines inhibits the college from sending required documentation and negatively impacts relationships with these agencies that service our students.

In order to make this process move smoothly, students are required to:

  • Check their ISU email weekly for communication from Barbra Oldenburg, Post-Licensure Admissions and Compliance at Mennonite College of Nursing. If you are forwarding your ISU email to an alternate email address, make sure to check your spam filter regularly.
  • Follow the steps outlined by Barbra Oldenburgupon entry into the program noting that Health and Safety Compliance requirements are fluid with different requirements being due at different points in the plan of study. Receiving an override to register for a particular semester does not guarantee compliance for the next registration period.
  • Ensure that each piece of documentation submitted to Barbra Oldenburg is labeled with the following information:

Email

Personalized subject header as follows:

Last name – First name – Program of study (i.e. MSN-FNP, MSN-NSA, PhD, DNP, RN/BSN) – Year Entered Program. The following is a sample communication: Keller - Jan - Traditional BSN - F’14 Freshman Plan 1

Hard copy submissions

Last name – First name – Program of study (i.e. MSN-FNP, MSN-NSA, PhD, DNP, RN/BSN) – Year Entered Program.

Failure to provide this information slows down the compliance verification process and increases staff response time.

  • Initiate only one inquiry, when necessary, regarding the status of submitted documentation. Submitting multiple emails and phone calls for the same issue slows down the compliance verification process and increases staff response time. If you want to be certain that your information has been received, request a “receipt/notification” when sending an email.
  • Submit all required documentation by the specified deadline, as this is the ONLY guarantee that you have that adequate time exists for office staff to provide registration overrides to the 700+ students turning in health requirements at the same time as you. Failure to meet deadlines will result in an inability to register for a given semester with thepossibility of increased time to degree. IF you have requirements complete in advance of the deadline, do not wait until the deadline to turn them in. Turning things in early allows time for feedback should the documentation be insufficient to meet the requirement.

______

I,, agree to the above procedures as outlined above and recognize that failure to comply may result in an inability to register for a given semester with the possibility of increased time to degree.
