Launch of the new International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine logo
In July 2007 the International HIV/AIDS Alliance Global Partnership (with the Secretariat in the UK) – ICF “International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine” founding organisation, presented a new logo. The logo reflects shared vision of the Alliance member organisations of strategies and approaches to overcoming HIV-epidemic. Logo’s graceful lines symbolically unite together values and guiding principles of 28 organisations – members of the Alliance family. The spiral’s elegant and dynamic structure is instantly associated with the AIDS red ribbon - renowned as an international symbol of AIDS awareness.
The new logo is a symbol of coordination of activities, effectively carried out by the Alliance Linking organisations, Country offices and the Secretariat.
The work of the Alliance Ukraine – by far the largest NGO in Eastern Europe in regard to the scale of implemented programmes, is an example of effective coordination of activities between the civil society and other stakeholder organisations in overcoming the epidemic.
The Alliance Ukraine started out in 2000 as a Technical Assistance Project, launched in Ukraine to implement the first ever international initiative to fight HIV/AIDS in the country. Operating as a knowledge hub for Ukrainian AIDS-service organisations, the Alliance Ukraine created the foundation for one of world’s most effective system of epidemic response. In 2002 the Alliance Ukraine officially became an international charitable foundation, which managers some of the biggest programmes to overcome HIV/AIDS in the country. The scale of carried out activities gave the Alliance Ukraine the right to be called the largest Ukrainian NGO to work in HIV/AIDS.
The total sum of international funding for HIV/AIDS projects, supported by the Alliance Ukraine in the course of five years exceeds 100 mln USD. The Alliance Ukraine implements most of the activities indicated in the National programme on HIV-prevention, treatment and support for PLHA and AIDS patients (2004-2008), which is realised in partnership with governmental agencies and NGOs.
The Alliance Ukraine effective work and long-term good reputation ensured the support of international donors and opened a window of opportunity for further funding for HIV/AIDS programmes. The Alliance Ukraine in partnership with the All-Ukrainian Network of PLHA were selected the Principal Recipients of the new Global Fund Round 6 grant to Ukraine Support for HIV and AIDS Prevention, Treatment and Care for Most Vulnerable Populations in Ukraine (2007-2012: total budget of 151 mln USD). The Alliance Ukraine and All-Ukrainian Network of PLHA grant agreement for the first two years of programme implementation is expected to be counter-signed by the Global Fund this week.
