Current Events File

To be well-informed citizens of the world, it is important for us to be aware of the important events happening all around us, to think critically about those events, and to make connections between the world and our classroom learning. Your job over the next few weeks is to collect current events news articles that discuss economics—in our city, state, country, or world! For each article, you will need to complete a brief write-up, including a connection between that article and one of our Economics Learning Targets.Please include a copy of the article.

**Articles must be current within the last month.

Where can you find news articles?

  • A newspaper—If your family does not subscribe to a newspaper, does one of your neighbors? The Westerville Public Library subscribes to MANY newspapers. Mrs. McDaniel in Genoa’s media center also subscribes to daily newspapers and will allow you to use them.
  • Internet— Many newspapers can be found online. Below are more great places to find current events stories written for a student audience:
  • a daily 10-minute newscast.

How will I be assessed?

  • Each section of the write-up has a certain point value assigned to it.
  • The most important sections are your summary of the article, as well as a thoughtful connection to one of our Economic Learning Targets.
  • You will need to complete FOUR write-ups. You can make connections to any of our Learning Targets, but you just cannot use the same one twice.
