Entity/organisation:HDOT was established in 1998 at Hallpara, Nawab Sirajdoullah

Road, Sarnapatty, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazilla under Thakurgaon District of Bangladesh. HDOT-Human Development Organisation Takurgaon is a private women initiated, women led, women managed and women and child developmental voluntary organization working in the remotest zone of Bangladesh. With the initiative of some self-motivated energetic women social workers it was been established to support the poor and marginal families.

It was registered in 1998 as a voluntary agency under Directorate of Women Affairs, Social Welfare, Youth Development, and in the NGO affairs bureau during 2001. The organization has one General Body and seven members Executive Committee (EC). The Executive Director is the ex-officio of the Executive Committee and chief of staff team and he is responsible to its Executive Committee (EC). HDOT, a registered voluntary NGO has been working in the rural and areas of the country to bring the improvement in the lives of poor women and their children within the context of family and community. Rural marginal households are the members of the assisted group. Most of the program is to address marginal and the poor households with special focus on the empowerment of poor community.

Being committed to environment friendly development to facilitate socio-economic empowerment of the poor, the organization grew as a leading national organization over the years with its participatory approach and bottom up development initiatives. The organization brings the economically and socially disadvantaged families into groups for social and economic development.

In its endeavors for socio-economic empowerment of the disadvantaged and poor, the organization had accessed some donors at different times- both national and international. Gradually HDOT expanded its program coverage with considerable geographical and population coverage in urban as well as rural areas. The leadership of the organization virtually developed gradually and led towards stability and sustainability with full commitment of the leadership.

HDOT has been working to bring the improvement in the lives of poor women and their children within the context of family and community. Rural and urban marginal populations are the members of the assisted group. Most of the programs are to address marginal & poor households with special focus on the empowerment of women group.

The genesis of initiating HDOT lies in its poverty alleviation in Takurgaon district in the year 1998. The experiences gained through such work combined with the community needs were the driving force to scale up its program coverage over the years.

The organization has been working with the long-term vision for the sustainable development of the targeted populations. Empowerment and sustainability are the central focus issue of all of its development initiatives. Over the years, the organization has extended quite significantly its geographical, population, and program coverage. The programs include education, health, micro-finance, agriculture, afforestation and fisheries.

Main mission of applicant:To established the poor and vulnerable people, especially the

women and children in the society through making them aware, capable, self-reliant, and self-initiators through building capacity, institutions, capital, utilization of local resources and imparting felt-need based problem solving programs involving necessary skilled, trained, experienced and qualified personnel.

Main activities of applicant:

  • Group members are enrolled after baseline survey.
  • All the existing adult groups are involved with IGA program.
  • Pre-school children comprised both males as well as female participants including extra-curriculum activities like sings, drams, recitations etc.
  • Within Large group, there are 4/5 small group (comprising 5 members for each small group).
  • Regular weekly meetings are held at the group level.
  • Group members deposit Tk.5-10 per person per week.
  • Cultural activities like life oriented cultural functions, folksong, popular theatres, dramas, inter-religious dialogues, inter commu-nity dialogues, motivational & awareness rising miking etc.
  • Extra-curriculum activities for children like recitations, songs, drams, drawing, cultural competitions, games and sports, etc.
  • Savings are reinvested among the group members for the self-help income-Generating program.

She has also been involved with social works as the Executive Director of HDOT from 1998, where she is leading the organisation and founder of the organisation. She is also the Chairperson of Bangladesh Mahila Samity of Thakurgaon District. She has participated many high management and leadership levels training courses, seminars, workshops etc. at national, regional and local levels organised by local, regional and national NGOs, International and Networks. She has also been conducted many training courses for the staffs, civil society members and the beneficiaries.

The project:He is the Coordinator of the activities of the project and he will be

responsible for coordinating the project activities and assisting the PM in planning, management, guiding staffs, activity implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project.

Skills/background qualifications:B. A. 25 years experience in NGO activities at different levels. He

has also been involved WITH HDOT as the Coordinator from 1998, where he is coordinating the project activities. Hhe has participated many training courses, seminars, workshops etc. at national, regional and local levels organised by local, regional and national NGOs, International and Networks. He has also been conducted many training courses for the staffs, civil society members and the beneficiaries.
