The Youth Inspiration & Career Awareness Award is intended to recognize and highlight three Local Workforce Development Board (Board) initiatives focused on supporting career awareness and exploration for young people. Three awards in this category will be presented. Describe how the Board has inspired youth and promoted career awareness through collaboration and involvement with the Texas workforce system.

Nomination Responses

1.Provide an overview of no more than 350 words describing Board’s efforts to promote career awareness for young people through the Texas workforce system. Identify local youth needs and describe innovation, partnership, and collaboration the Board used to build capacity to meet economic and workforce objectives. (30 points)

2.Describe how the Board is incorporating tools provided by TWC such as Texas Career Check and Texas Reality Check and how those tools are benefiting the youths served. (30 points)

3.Describe the Board’s involvement with area youth and the benefits received. (10 points)

4.What were the results? Identify the economic impact or other measurable results on youth, the local community, and the state of Texas within the past 12 months or most recent reporting period. (10 points)

5.Explain how the Texas business community gained leverage, capacity, and advantage from these efforts. (10 points)

6.Identify the industry sector(s) highlighted or promoted reflecting priority industry(ies) in the Board’s area. (5 points)

7.Explain how others are using or might replicate these efforts. (5 points)

Nomination Summary for Conference Materials

Example: Workforce Solutions for Imaginary Area in Texas,Mystery Company ABC

Mystery Company ABC is the largest operator of blankety blank in Texas. It also directly supports workforce development through its membership on the Workforce Solutions Imaginary Board X, aligning with X’s initiative to attract, develop and retain a quality workforce for the Imaginary X area. ABC currently employs 7,500 team members in Location A and is a strong proponent of developing a highly skilled future workforce. To support the Texas workforce system’s goal of ensuring that both employers and workers have the resources and skills needed to remain competitive in the global market last year, Mystery Company ABC initiated and created the Texas Two-Step Education Alliance. This partnership resulted in the direct hiring of eight veterans.
