Registration:All individuals interested in using Free Clinic services must first qualify with the Intake Coordinator before using the clinic’s medical or dental services. Individuals will fill out an application, see a screener and if approved, individual’s name will be placed in a lottery. Twenty (20) names are drawn every two weeks. If your name is drawn, you will be contacted by the clinic to finalize the paperwork and get an appointment to see a doctor at the clinic.

Patient or a member of immediate family (parent, spouse, adult child) living in same household must reside or work on either Hilton Head or Daufuskie Island (Beaufort County). Patient must be a resident for a minimum of 3 months in order to be eligible for services. Family income must be less than 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. Individual must have no usable medical insurance.

Services:Dental appointments are scheduled in person only between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Dental Clinic. The Dental Clinic is unable to make appointments by phone or return phone calls to individuals requesting appointments. Parking is available in the parking lot or on the street. Services provided: cleanings, fillings, extractions and root canals. Waiting times for appointment depend on the specialty care needed.

Registration:Documents required for eligibility screening:

(1)All family members in the household who earn wages must provide income verification in order to determine the eligibility of each member of the household. Verification should be the most recent month of paystubs and last year’s income tax return, or notarized letters from employers on company letterhead if paid in cash.

(2)Each individual applying for services must provide proof of 3 months’ residency. If you are unable to provide this, you may be eligible 3 months after your initial visit to VIM.

(3)Each individual must provide some form of photo identification.

(4)All adult patients are asked (once per year) to donate twenty dollars to help the clinic pay for medicines and medical supplies.

(5)New patients are registered on Monday and Wednesday afternoons only, between 12:30-3:30 pm. Patients who are currently registered may be re-screened during regular clinic hours.

VIM Screening Policy:

(1)Individuals and families must be approved prior to scheduling an appointment or being seen as a walk-in patient.

(2)All patients are re-screened yearly, some more often.

(3)Medical and dental services will not be provided to individuals and families until VIM’s eligibility and document requirements have been met.

Dental Policy:

(1)All patients must have their registration up-to-date in order to make a medical or dental appointment. Must be rescreened every year.

(2)All first-time patients should schedule an introductory appointment for dental cleaning, x-rays and a check-up. You must pay $10 deposit when you make this appointment, which will be refunded when you come for your scheduled appointment.

Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Medical and Dental Walk-in Policy: Patients without appointments must sign-in between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. There is no guarantee that you will be seen that day.

Alternative Care for VMI:

The Beaufort-Jasper-Hampton Comprehensive Health Services and Hardeeville Clinic are alternatives for treatment. They require an appointment and charge a fee based on income. Proof of income is required.
