WALK - SATURDAY, 9th DECEMBER, 2017.

EASTERN SHERBROOKE FOREST WALK – DANDENONG RANGES NATIONAL PARK.

Melway Reference: Map 75 K 4 to 9 and Map 124 A/B 5 to 9.

WALK DETAILS:

Approximately 7km, 2hr loop. Grade: Moderate/with 2 moderately steep hills (one downhill and one uphill)

This is a round trip of the Eastern section of the Sherbrooke Forest, starting and finishing at Grants Picnic Ground, Monbulk Road, Kallista. Melway 75 J 5.

The route follows Lyrebird walk, then Neumann Track, passing through cleared areas of bush created by the successive wildfires of the early 1900’s. At Paddy Track junction we follow the track downhill before climbing up the Welch Track and following Coles Ridge Track back to the picnic ground. There are steep sections, downhill on the Paddy Track and uphill on the Welch Track which may be slippery when wet. It would be advisable to carry poles if you usually use them.

To find the Lyrebird Walk proceed north through the car park, past the café and look for the “Hardy Gully Nature Walk” sign.

I have made a reservation for Lunch at 12.00 p.m. at Grants on Sherbrooke Café at the Grants Picnic Ground area. For those wishing to have a coffee before the walk you can also purchase a coffee at the Café.

STARTING PLACE AND TIME:

The walk will commence at 9.45 a.m. from Grants Picnic Ground. Those wishing to have coffee can do so at the Café but must be ready to commence the walk by 9.45 a.m.

Car Pooling will be at the Eltham Lower Park to leave by 8.30 a.m. Please let me know if you will be driving direct to the start, if you are happy to drive and how many passengers you can take, or if you require a lift from Eltham Lower Park, in the carpark outside the park.

You can either have lunch at the Café or take your own picnic lunch.

Directions to Grants Picnic Ground:

Drivers can take whichever route you prefer to get yourself to Burwood Highway. Proceed along Burwood Highway, possibly from either Springvale Road or the Eastlink exit. You will drive past Knox City through Ferntree Gully, Upper Ferntree Gully, Upwey, Tecoma through to the roundabout at the end of the shops in Belgrave. Drive through the roundabout on to the (M404) Monbulk Road. Grants Picnic Ground is on the RHS just before Kallista (approx. 5 minutes from the roundabout). The entry is just past the Picnic Ground and 50kms signs. If you come to the Kallista Primary School you have gone too far.

If you could please let me know by Thursday, 7th December if:

  1. You intend to walk.
  2. You wish to have lunch at the café or you are taking a picnic.
  3. You are driving direct.
  4. You are happy to drive and how many passengers you can take

or you require a lift.

Fuel contribution would be $5.00 per passenger.

Thanks
